Description

Once upon a time the internet industry had several seperate entities but the longer we spend online, the more markets find themselves merging and ageing affiliates - by experience not grey hairs - find themselves with domain holdings far outweighing development possibilities and in the opposite direction Domainers are looking to do that little bit more with their portfolios.

So if you find yourself in the above situation, a toe in both waters - not unlike myself, or seeking to be and looking to broaden your reach, develop your holdings, extend partnerships and possiblities then join this community, show us what you have, what your wishes are and tell us what's on your mind.

A kind of twlight zone between A4U and Acorn if you will. Maybe this is just the ticket to find new ways to earn more income, gain more knowledge and new partners and develop revenue streams you didn't think possible either due to lack of expertise, development time, hands on deck requirements or simply not having the motivation or know how to get started.

    Hi Lee

I'm getting interested in the domain name arena though know little about how to effectively monitise a typed-in domain. I subscribe to Frank Schillings' blog (http://frankschilling.typepad.com/) - he appears to know the business very well.

I'll be looking for advice, ideas, etc and will try to offer the same!

      Alright John,

Got a new motor er domain?

To be honest I'm quite dim when it comes to picking up books and taking advice from other sources and have always find out the hard way, it's not always the best but it helps me find new ways but like most things you should just copy and develop and add a little extra, I do things the wrong way round.

So if you're reading an expert's blog you could probably teach me one or two things as I just press buttons and if they make lights flash or make funny noises, I keep pressing.

      Cheers
      Lee

You landed then. Several years on I find myself in both markets, domaining and affiliate marketing, in no particular order although domain sales generally split the business 50/50 more often than not.

I am interested in the cross over, some people high up dismiss it, others can't wait for the barriers to come down and technology to advance but we're here now, we have the scope, the assets and the ideas, so let's do business, partner, discuss and move forward and make our assets work harder for us.

This isn't a sales forum so please if you only wish to flaunt domains do that in the dedicated MB on A4U or at Acorn, this community is to enable discussion on cross over, to enable partnerships and deals and create relationships where both parties can benefit from new and real revenue streams.

Feel free to join in and I look forward to seeing what domains you hold, areas of interests, ideas, whether you're looking for trusted developers, domainers or simply searching for that project partnership, backer or know it all and of course more revenue.

Without really trying I've accumulated more domains than I'll ever use but I just seem to let go of them, that's one of aspects of domaining I would find hard - letting my prized domains go, not that I have anything especially valuable.
Maybe we could pool our resources somehow and start our own holding pages which link off to our active domains? It's gotta be more profitable than parking at Sedo etc and would move some PR around. Just thinking out loud...

        How many have you got?

Yes there are better ways than just parking, quite a few private portfolio holders are now circulating traffic around their own domains, there was one article a few months back based on retaining traffic and creating communities, and for those with really valued domains, they just use the worth of the domain and or type in traffic to employ staff to develop sites and in turn create more income.

Not many affiliates, although I could be wrong, have the luxury of being in at the top of both markets but a pro domainer can quite easily be but then they haven't always the time to develop. I've often wondered why there isn't more renting of domains occuring but then people renting need to be proven and the trust there for development to stay in situ. I've also wondered at the lack of partnerships being created.

I've had offers from several people to invest in ideas but I like to take my time, at the moment at least, it may be something to give serious thought to, I've also had offers from domainers for me to try and monetise their domains and that's an avenue I do wish to explore and soon, just moving abroad has been too much fun, however the deleting site being shut down has kinda brought me back down to earth.

I'm working on an idea now which will hopefully proove more beneficial than parking in the long term, and will let you know how that goes, with regards parking again, if you have domains that get traffic or very little there's so many things you can do but should domains just be redirected and parked or should they work for themselves and grow and be that little more and earn more revenue in its own right?

Another way of looking at spare domains is... new talent, fresh talent, people looking to get into the affiliate market on A4u, could they benefit from free set up and training and bring them under your wing, work with you or for you, developing one of your domains and them sharing the revenue and maybe when it reaches a certain target give them 75% instead of 5o% - do that with a dozen of so domains and there's a ready made revenue stream.

The scope for using dormant domains is far reaching, even as you say, doing your own parking portal, running adsense pages or general PPC link and putting your own domains in amongst the searches, for those who have portals and advertise hundreds of thousands of different products from finance to toys, it's easily done, using the subject matter of the domain, related searches and simply deep linking to your own sites, another avenue to consider.

There's definately more that can be done with domains in affiliate's hands, and there's also partnerships to be found and made and grown on both sides once the trust is there, who knows a medium affiliate and a medium domainer may just be waiting to find each other and then the sky's the limit.
