I was doing some work on the Affiliate Marketing category within Dfinitive and thought it would be interesting to see which sites were the most popular and attracted the most visitors. I used Alexa.com for the traffic analysis. Alexa is an Amazon.com owned website which:
“Computes traffic rankings by analyzing the Web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users. The information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed, until; finally, we get the traffic rankings shown in the Alexa service. The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach).”
Alexa data is certainly not 100% accurate, its probably not even 70%, but it’s probably the bes...

"Alexa Toolbar users" - thats the problem I see with Alexa. It helps provide webmasters with an idea, but by no means a true picture. I know many affiliates use the bar themselves in order to help bump up their sites, where personally, I can't be doing with extra toolbars. Something maybe I should reconsider in order to self-promote a bit more. Very interesting list though and a great compilation that I am sure will be useful to many a newbie affiliate bod :)

I agree with Frosty that Alexa is pretty unreliable until you're well up in the top 50K or so. Makes a good reading list though, so a good post just on that front.
