Alternatively would a superior website be created using say Dreamweaver and an independent host?

Are you familiar with HTML code and creating web sites? If not, I'd personally recommend Microsoft Frontpage which is a very easy point and click tool for creating web sites.
Otherwise, if you feel more advanced Dreamweaver may be an option however I will note that this application is designed for the power user.
Once you have created your web site locally along with all the files, images and content can you upload everything to your web space by FTP using an FTP program or if using Frontpage make sure your host provides Frontpage Extensions (other hosting providers charge £25 a year extra for this).

Obvisouly the choice is yours, however may I ask why you feel beamhost has a different approach from the others? This is a very interesting point and I'd very much appreciate the chance to better our service.
