Re: Which host for a Dedicated Server?

Thought I would throw my thoughts in. Last year I had a need for a VPS and 1&1 looked like they fit the bill. However it took 3 working days for the sales team to get back to me to an email. With 5000 UV a day I would say the processor is not too important. What is important is uptime and speed of support when it goes wrong and RAM(1gb should be sufficient). I didnt want to risk the fact that they took 3 days for a sales enquiry - what would support be like. Having said that they are offering a good deal and is worth dropping them a line.

I would check on the 100mb connection. My server here is connected to a 1gb network but the gateway is not. Might be me being cynical but marketing words could be hiding the real truth. I'd check.

At my last company our web server cost us approx £800 pm - that included a mssql license but more importantly 24/7 monitoring and personal support (not a call centre and direct to a technician who knew the server and how to get things back online). At the time 1 hour offline made £800 seem insignificant.
