how many clicks for one conversion

Hi all,
Im a bit of a noob and i'm struggling to get any commission at all, so far i've got one sale on one of my programs which has received approx 100 clicks. Another program on the site has had around the same, and i've had no luck there at all. How many clicks are you guys getting before you see a sale?

I've built a fan site for a game that has not yet released, but is available for preorder, I have around 30 members registered, but having trouble getting them to post. I've added some of my own comments which seems to get a couple of posts back, but nothing at all really. i'm currently seeing approx 400 hits/day, and when there's announcement i've acheived around 1000 hits. Are these good figures?

Also if anyone could give me some advice on my site, it would be apreciated, I dont know if I should post a link to my site here, so please let me know if ok.

thanks

I'm not sure about clicks, but I would say on average you'll make one sale per 100 page views.

hi charvel - post a link, well be nice

sounds like your potentially onto something, if its not out yet you cant expect too much in terms of content so this might be where you have to put the initial legwork in yourself finding any pre-release articles etc, developer screenshots and get the visitors coming back regular.

With a look at the site im sure someone will be able to point you in the right direction in terms of how your advertising the product.

For conversion its merchant specific, and merchant-affiliate specific. How well does the merchant your promoting stack up in the market, is there another merchant offering it on pre order cheaper? That will affect conversion. Does your merchant offer free delivery, again, will affect conversion.

Just a few bits to think about

Thanks for the guidance guys. Here's a link to my site

www.battlefield-badcompany.com

I've managed to gather a good amount of content together, and i'm about to post a review for the Beta release.

i know it's not the prettiest site about, but I wanted to ensure the contents stood out as much as poss so decided to limit colours etc.

Any feedback is greatl apreciated

The first thing I would say to you is that the pre-order links seem to be hidden away, or within review text which I am not sure will be recieved well by your target audience. For instance on Battlefield: Bad Company Beta review | Battlefield - Bad Company.com this page the review is peppered with links to aff links to game.co.uk etc whereas I think it would be maybe best to keep links on topic and link to quotes and screenshots etc.

A quick search for PreOrder Battlefield: Bad Company - Google Search shows your site on the second page so I would poss do something about that. I.E put a WHOLE page about being able to pre-order the game from different shops with their prices. With screenies some nice graphics and descriptions about game features etc etc etc. Then also I would have a small advert of your own that links to the preorder page that you have just put together and put it at the bottom of the review page (and others) you have cause that takes up spot number 1 example "you have read the review" "now preorder here..."

one other thing your page takes an age to load with all of the javascript in firefox and IE is even longer.

hope that makes sense and gives you something to chew on

Re: how many clicks for one conversion

Thanks for the review affmonkey.

I thought that I was maybe overdoing the links to affiliate sites within my text. My thought was that as this game will be so popular, I would benefit by getting my cookie on as many computers as possible. In reality, they're not actually attracting many clicks so i'll review this asap.

Good idea about adding a preorder link at the bottom of relevant articles.

I think the counter at the top of the page is causing long page load times, so i'll try placing the javascript in an external file and calling it in to see if it improves things.

I'm finding the use of banners and adsense pretty pointless so far, I've made nothing from the banners, and $2.75 from adsense and google search. I guess my visitors are coming to my site for one thing, so it's going to be hard persuading them to look at something else.

thanks again for the usefull info

ukinternet_uk_com is infamous around these parts
Re: how many clicks for one conversion

Hey charvel

Who did you go to for your website? I cant seem to find it in the first few pages google which is quite surprising as you've managed to get a keyword rich url.

Your website pages aren't search engine friendly either which is quite important when it comes to selling a product that has a short lived shelf life - you would want your preorder page to have a url similar to http://www.battlefield-badcompany.com/preorder.php so when google and yahoo etc come to crawl your site you'll get listed much higher in their search engines.

Hope this helps a little bit
