Years ago I heard bad things about them and as I was sponsoring a child, I enquired, quite naturally wanting to know moreand got a thoroughly nasty letter back threatening legal action. I'd already been alarmed by a letter from the child raving about Christianity - he'd clearly been thorougly brainwashed by this organisation. I certainly will have nothing to do with these religious bigots.

i don't know about your specific allegations, but you obviously have issues with religion in general lakrasia (as your sig file shows). not everybody does.

Obviously I can't repeat any allegations. Rather than put my mind at ease they threatened to sue and that was just from an innocent question I wrote in to them, which was a nasty shock to me.

It's dishonest to give aid to people they are brainwashing. And at the time I didn't realise this was how my money was being used, as I am a person with strong principles. I was raised in a school where we were taught to question everything and these children are poor and vulnerable and they are being taken advantage of.

My thoughts on religion aren't appropriate to discuss in detail here, but when a merchant of dubious practice comes onto the board, it would be abhorrent if I did not warn people that they are brainwashing those who don't have access to the kind of education that we in the West take for granted.

As merchants go, this is about as unethical as it gets.

    Lakrasia

I recently used their site to buy Christmas cards/gift aid on behalf of my family. Now, I found the fact that they are accredited members of the main charitable organisations, are uk government funded, and the fact that they play down the Christian bit in their communications as being reassuring.

'as merchants go, this is about as unethical as it gets'

this is an outrageous thing to say given that this is an agency helping the poorest people in the world in over 100 countries. I hate religion generally, so obviously your story of a child you were sponsoring being brainwashed is not exactly music to my ears, but you have to put your one example against the overwhelming good they do.

So you're telling me that my taxes are going to support missionary work.
