    Hi,

    I am quite new to affiliate marketing, I have had a website set up for just over a year which i did for a friends hotel. I have put some banners on there for holiday companies and have earned about £200. The page views per month are about 4000. Is this resonable or do I need a lot more traffic to make money. I am launching a new website this week for st ives cornwall (love-stives.co.uk) and intend to use affiliates on it. ie holiday companies, property companies etc. But my question is have you any tips to create large volumes of traffic.

    Any tips would be most appreciated

    regards

    Neal Baker

    If you want to pay for the traffic then use Google AdWords and/or Yahoo, MSN etc.

    If you want free traffic then it's all down to SEO. If you're unfamiliar with optimisation then I'd suggest you use this forum and search for seo tips on the various SEs.

    It's hard to comment on the £200 without knowing more info. However, the following equation may help ( and I'm sure be disputed by my fellow affiliates ) ..

    4,000 uv per month = 48,000 per year
    48,000 uv x 2% ( a reasonable ctr? ) = 960 clicks earning commission
    960 x £5 ( average earnings ) = £4800 total earnings

    Obviously insert other figures for an alternative figure.

    Note ..
    uv = unique visitors
    ctr = click thru rate

    Sounds a bit high, I would say 960 x 10p

    Well it al depends on what you are promoting and where.

    Totally agree. I was assuming a 5% commission off an average hotel booking of £100.

    Absolutely based on no evidence whatsoever .. nothing new there then - LOL!

    Funky

    960 is clickthrus not sales. If the average commission is £5.00 then with a 2/3% conversion, then earnings will only be about £100 - 200

    So, hangers, you have done quite well
