Easiest way to get an idea is to sign up to networks as an affiliate and then have a wander around to see what other clothing merchants are doing and see what comission they are offering that way you will get a feel of things.
Just about to fully setup a site selling designer clothing and sunglasses- got the wholesalers ready to go and the site could be up in a matter of days ( still deciding on the domain name )
Needed to gauge interest before i go ahead with the affiliate program.
Most of the prices are about 70% under RRP as I didn't want to be greedy with the pricing. eg D&G sunglasses around £65 with a RRP of £200. Tod Harvy jackets £24 etc ...
I was planning on having 10% for affiliate commissions, but then greater for high volume sellers.
It is my first time on this side of the fence so, any advice or interest is welcomed.
Cheers

I currently use AF for a couple of sites I have and had a good look around the related stores today.
Seems that many keep to below 10% commissions.
The site I'm in the middle of putting together will use oscommerce and it's own built in aff program.
Would that put people off ?
I understand that it can be quite costly to setup as a merchant with the big networks.
Funds might not run to that to start with as I'm trying to keep sites prices as keen as possible.

I think a lot of it comes down to trust, most affiliates i think trust a network run program more than they would a private affiliate one as there is a better chance of getting paid on time and if things go wrong then there is a 3rd party to mediate.
Although the initial cost may seem a lot (and i think AF is one of the cheapest) you really do need to look at it on a long term basis and then the costs don't seem that much at all compared to what you could be maing in extra sales.

Is there any pricing related info on this site ?
Just so I know what would be expected ?

Affiliate Future's standard charges are £500 sign up fee and £75 per month (plus override on affiliate commissions)
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.
If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.
There's no harm in setting up both programmes, then you can let affiliates choose.
There is a sunglasses programme on AF already - can't remember what it is, but don't let that put you off too much!
Now with NEW! SHORTER! SIGNATURE!

The most important thing to consider in order to decide what commission you will be offering is your margins. If you're selling lower than anyone else, you won't be able to offer the same commission. You will be competitve in a different level, maybe not on commission but on number of sales, EPC etc. So, look into your margins, see what you can afford to pay, not just now, but in the long run and decide the commission.

I know that if I started out with the private affiliate program then I'd be happy to offer 10% as a starting point and then offer regular bonuses or just higher commission rates for top affiliates.
It's all up in the air until I actually get the site fully online and then offer the program to affiliates.
Would this be a place to find affiliates or is that seen as spamming for own gain ?
By the way, I've seen the sunglassesuk affiliate program, I can offer most of the same ones but cheaper.
Add that together with the 7% they offer to the 10% I'd start off with - would that be considered as an attractive opportunity for affiliates ?

I've been looking for a sunglasses and similar merchant to promote this summer, so I'd certainly be interested in a programme offering 10%.
However, whether I promoted or not would depend on the quality of your site / user experience in comparison with your competitors.
Interesting though, and here on the forum is definately a good spot to get site and programme feedback as well as some decent affiliates. Good luck with it![]()

Thanks for that Kirsty, I'm sure the site ( when done ) will attract good and bad attention as people can be a little over critical sometimes !
I'll be sure to post here when it is available.

Just sorted out some prada and gucci handbags aswell.
Fingers crossed should have the site open by the end of the week/ easter.

Nearly there !
I've gone with the domain name of fox-fashion.co.uk and will be using clixglore for the affiliate program as it has low startup fees.
I can then use another main network once things are up and running and sales are coming in.
