Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.
If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.
Have DGM got any staff left, i heard they were really struggling, surely the best would have jumped ship already?
Good luck with finding someone Julian.
It is nice to see someone posting the salary details for a change.
If I ever leave Madrid I will give you a call.

But why oh why in this day and age do we have LOCATIONS?
What has happened to work from home with the occasion trip to London for reporting purposes? I have 4 regions reporting to me, and manage the teams by way of Voice Conference, Video Conference, Webex presentations and only occasional visits. When I say regions, I aint talking NW, SW etc - I am talking Latin America, North America, Asia and AMET.
Shame as sometimes I seriously think about moving into this area fulltime to have a play, but I aint shifting from my current location.
I agree 100% Chris.
I raised this point when I first joined A4u and I still haven't had a decent reason for people not employing affiliate managers from home.
Personally I would only move to London for 100k per year minimum, and even then it would be a tough call.![]()
I can only presume it is lack of trust or lack of vision.
At this moment in time my partner is doing translations for a company from Holland. When she finishes she will e-mail it to the agency in Ireland. Then she is going to be doing two hours work for a company in America where she will have a meeting with 4 of their staff via skype. During that time I will be doing my SEO work for a client in Canada, I will speak to him when I have finished via msn and then I am working on a site for a few hours with a client in Manchester.
I will be doing all of the above without leaving my chair and it is for a lot more money than affiliate managers are generally paid. It makes no sense to me either, I think companies are missing a huge opportunity here.
I disagee actually.
Maybe it's just me, but working merchant side it is a LOT easier if you work from the head office. I'm in meetings at least once a day, and find it a lot easier & productive to walk over to someones desk and ask them a question face to face that it would be to phone, skype, msn, etc.
Although in this day and age it's certainly possible to work from home a lot of people tend to propel when working in a team environment - it also seems to make the managers a lot happier - if I was employing someone they would have to work with my in the office as the relationship would be a lot better that way.

Great to hear another side of the story. Thanks James.
I think that is still the general feel for anyone who hasn't worked in a virtual team. Believe it or not, the team feel good factor, doesn't disappear just because you are in different locations, timezones etc, it only disappears because of lack of inclusion.
I think you find that someone who has worked in a successful virtual team can easily and quickly establish another virtual team with minimal effort. Those who have never worked in a virtual team, or have done but it wasn't effective, will have a negative view until they work for me.... lol I mean, a successful virtual team.
I guess it all depends on the size of the operation. As mentioned in my role, if I was to have all my meetings face to face, it would be impossible. Today for example I have had a voice conference, with people in London, followed by another in Wales and tonight will be having one in America. I think my position has forced me to make sure virtual teams work.
As for making managers happier - again depends where they are based. My manager was in the States this week, god know next week. As long as there is occasional face to face, but constant discussions then this is ample. Managers who feel the need to be there in person day in day out, in my experience, are simply micromanagers that cause more problems on a daily basis than they care to admit.![]()
Sounds like 2 jobs in one this one.
At Betfred we have 2 affiliate managers that purely work on our affiliates and the future strategy implementing new ideas etc.
Then we also have a team of 2 that work on the emailing which is a pretty busy and involved job. Its not just about the emailing its also about the stats, checking on who is opening the mails, what is clicked, demographics etc.
Seems a decent amount of work to me but would something suffer?!![]()
