Had a suspicious order this morning.
Card data was "All Match"
Used 192 to find the customers real phone number.
Phoned customer, who had had a call from his bank (HSBC) last night to question the transaction, he had told them it wasn't him, so they cancelled his cards.
Did the bank make any attempt to contact us before we shipped the goods?
Did they f@ck! They'l just send us a chargeback in the post and grab the money back from our account.
They're not really doing much to help merchants are they.
(Luckily we know it's dodgy so won't be shipping the goods, would contact the police, but I know from experience that they won't do anything easier. Bend over Mr Merchant and take it up the **** from the fraudsters, banks and police!)

I had a bank account set up in my name and address with Halifax online, the first i knew about it was the welcome to your halifax online bank account letter turned up in the post!![]()
Called them and they didnt even thank or say sorry for the time wasted contacting them & the police said they could not do anything!!
Thanks Lee

Yup the CC companies will screw you over as much as they can and as a merchant you have little recourse in getting anything back.
I hate the chargeback letters they send (fortunatley we get very very few as im a suspicious bugger) because they always state that they will not enter into any correspondance about it and basically you are stuffed, the reason they give is because it wasn't a in person transaction and had no signature which is the most stupidest reason ever, if you are a trader and also a bricks and mortar store owner you have to have two merchant numbers , one for online trading and one for offline trading - whats the point if they aren't going to protect you when all security details match.
of course there is always verfied by visa and mastercard securcode now but lets face it how many of the population now use that and if you ship overseas it's a waste of time.

I usually do report it to the police and have helped in a conviction before which was a wonderful feeling. But some are better than others.
With worldpay you can ban orders on email address, ip address etc and I'll usually do this to make the fraudsters life a bit more difficult as worldpay do share this information across all merchants.
You can also check to see if they have tried to make the transaction several times before finding a card that still works which is a good bit of extra evidence if you are suspicious of an order.
Have a good and fraud free fourth quarter.
I got taken for a few hundred a few years back through not been suspicious enough, Worldpay were ****e back then, fraud warnings were so vague and the police were even worse!
I gave up being an online merchant (designer clothing) in the end because the fraud was just out of control, for every legit order i'd have 10 fakes, I really feel for you guys unless the security has got 100 times better in the last few years!
My atm machine is provided by barclays, the customers number appears on the reciept, which is not safe, firstly on my end, in theory either myself or one of my staff could use the number elsewher, and on the customer side, if they drop the reciept.
I called barclays and I said to them that I understand you want to cut down on fraud, the number on show, isnt correct!
The lovely lady told me if I want an updated machine, that will xxx-xxx the numbers it will cost me a further £25 a month
