[Speaking with Affiliate Management hat] We have a program on several networks and it is sometimes leading to a few affiliates being paid for only one lead. So, for example, an affiliate on TD, CJ and AF is being paid even though only one lead was generated, because there was a cookie for all three networks.

I have discussed technical solutions with a couple of people and obviously the merchant needs to make sure only the last referring affiliate gets paid. How can that be done?

Would the merchant need to see if there are different cookies and, if so, read them all and then only report back to the network whose affiliate led to the sale?

    Thank you.

    Hi Nadeem,

    Local cookies is the answer.

Ill use us as an example all our TD links have &r=TD apparended to the end of them, and all our AF links have &r=AF.

When somone comes through an AF affiliate we set a cookie that basically says its an affiliate future referal, if this customer should then make a cooking only the affiliate future tracking would be shown.

The local tracking works on last man in as well though (very important) so that if someone comes in later via a TD cookie the local cookie updates to say its a TD affiliate and TD tracking should be shown.

Just got to remember to make sure the local cookie has a longer life than any possible network cookie, else there wont be any local reference to say what sort of tracking to show

Never actually read it but POR have a bit of a guide http://www.paidonresults.com/pdfs/local-cookies.pdf

The is a post on Supercod's blog that explains the best option: - http://www.affiliatemarketingblog.co...explained.html

Edit: Posted at the same time as Dan - obviously took me 3mins to type one line! Most of the content is the same over both links but the blog post has a few extra good points in the check list and the pdf has diagrams.
