For those of you spending the day in Bristol after the a4uEvents networking summer event & BBQ I have listed a few recommended tourist attractions and great fun things to do in Bristol!!
1. Shopping (my personal favourite)
I would personally recommend Park Street, Whiteladies and Clifton Village for some elegant unique shopping. Ideal for designer clothes, vintage, jewellery and arts and crafts.
Park Street is actually located very close to all the recommended hotels
St Nicholas market is another intriguing shopping area; take a step back in time in the Old Cities grand buildings. You will find an intriguing choice of stalls, shops, arts and crafts and a fresh food market on Saturdays.
To find your usual high street shops head for Broadmead!
2. Attractions
Brunel ss Great Britain won the UK Museum of the Year 2006. Built and launched in Bristol in 1843, Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s maritime masterpiece was the world’s first ocean-going, propeller driven iron ship.
Watershed Media Centre. Situated in the heart of the city centre, Bristol Watershed offers a lively programme of independent film, digital media and events. There is also a relaxing and friendly cafe/bar that offers a wide selection of snack meals and drinks. Please use the More Information Link for programme information.
Common Wealth Museum. A major museum covering the dramatic history of Britain’s imperial past and modern day Commonwealth. Over 500 years of history brought to life using state-of-the-art presentational techniques. The galleries tell the story of British exploration, trade and conquest and the continued impact this has on multicultural Britain and the world today. Currently exhibiting “Break the Chain”.
Breaking the Chains is a £1 million Heritage Lottery Funded exhibition that has been created to mark the significance of 2007 in consultation with community members, and in partnership with Bristol’s Museums, Galleries and Archives.
Bristol Zoo. Visit the new Monkey Jungle at Bristol Zoo. This fabulous exhibit provides a first class home for its primate neighbours including monkeys, lemurs and gorillas. It also offers visitors the unique opportunity to interact with the lemurs in the delightful lemur garden.
3. Theatre
Bristol Old Vic – Tom Jones. Follow Tom, the original playboy of the western world, as he adventures and seduces his way through life (mostly in a state of undress). Watch this lusty, young troubadour as he attempts to gain his heart’s desire. The South West Academy of Dramatic Art Repertory Company spill across the stage with energy and pace in this 18th century romp.
Bristol Hippodrome. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s triumphant musical, Starlight Express is like nothing you’ve seen before. Brought to you by the original West End creative team, this high-velocity production fuses state of the art technology, electrifying music, and all-new dazzling sets and costumes by John Napier.
This production of Starlight Express also features an element never before seen in a UK tour - 3-D technology. The technique brings the action out to and over the audience promising a journey you will never forget!
4. Tours
The Bristol Packet Boat Trip. River & Docks cruises up to Bath & down the Avon under Clifton Suspension Bridge, with commentary. General public cruises on 4 boats; the “Bagheera” the “Tower Belle” the “Redshank” and the “Flower of Bristol” all available for educational cruises and private charter. Trips” include Beeses Tea Gardens for tea, lunch at Chequers, Lock & Weir, as well as a tour of the city dock with commentary and tour of dockside pubs.
Open Bus Tour. Enjoy the sights of Bristol on a 75-minute tour of the City with local guides. The first tour leaves from Broad Quay on the Centre at 10am, the last leaves at 4pm. The tours run every 90 minutes Sunday to Friday and every 45 minutes on a Saturday. There are 20 stops around the City, allowing customers to hop on and off, and discount tickets for Explore At-Bristol, Bristol Zoo, the Empire and Commonwealth Museum and the Bristol FerryBoats, are available from the Driver
Alternatively Chris in the office has volunteered to arrange a Vicky Pollard Bus Tour!
