I started a site a months back and its all over the place and has been for a while. Has any one else noticed srangeness lately?

    The pattern thus far is:

    In 2 days: No. 7
    2 weeks: No. 139
    3 weeks: Dissappeared completely! :scared
    5 weeks: No. 3
    6 weeks: No. 2
    Today: No. 120 :cry

That's not normal! Surely to god that's not normal?? I've done other sites that have stayed stable for a long time but this is silly. What on earth is happening? Any one got any theories?

FYI: Its an Affilistore site. If that makes any difference. :cry

I've often found (wild?) fluctuations with Google rankings, but have learnt over time that it pretty much settles down with time to where your site should 'naturally' lie

Google does very occasionally tweak it's algorithms, but personally I've found that if my site position varies a lot it's because I've tweaked something here or there which maybe I shouldn't have! :scared

It's always a good idea to check your site out with Google's Webmaster Tools - that should at least point you in the right direction if it's your site that is the problem :blush

    Good luck anyway :tup

Hmmmmm, Affilistore! That may be your problem. Not worked with it before but it is a template right? Basically the same as hundreds of other sites with a few things changed here and there. correct me if im wrong! But if it is what i explained above then thats your problem!

I have an old site that i created years back when i first starting in online marketing and its basically a white label site, it used to get fairly good rankings back in the day but now thousands of other people have the same white label, they all have the same content.

I sometimes check out the sites performance in Google and from one day to the next it is ranging from number 1 to number 999999999999. Every day is completely different and i dont really get any visitors any more.

I think that may be the case with your site, duplicate content, if google see that many other sites are like yours then what do they display before the other? If 1000 sites all have the same content and are all pr1 sites and all have 50 backlinks from pr0 sites, (for example) what do they display first!?

Maybe you need to get some good content, remove any content that may be duplicate and get a few quality links and maybe your may see a difference.

I may be wrong, but may be right! All depends on how many other sites are very similar to yours!

    hope this helps

    cheers.

We see some very odd fluctuations on the keywords 'luxury hamper' and 'luxury hampers'. We'll spend a couple of weeks with a listing somewhere between 7 and 15 for both those phrases, then we'll spend a couple of weeks at 90 or so, or not even listed, then we'll come back again. Fortunately we're not really chasing those phrases or else it would be very frustrating! That said, if we were concentrating on those phrases, we'd probably be much more consistent anyway.

I agree though, the rankings above are very odd and I'm fighting my natural cynicism towards Google to suggest that there's probably a good reason why...

Im seeing some issues as well - new site got indexed but has now dropped out of the index without even appearing in the serps. Another site that was indexed is saying via webmaster tools that its appearing in the serps and it isnt (whilst the cache took ages to update)... theres obviously a serps related update going on...

In my experience, this is very normal. The stats for "Samsung NC10" searches on my site are amusing to see over the last three months. I have been on and off the front page more times that I can count! One day it will be 0 traffic, the next 200!

That said, it now seems to have been stabilised and I've been in number 7 (my highest!) for the last week. The longest I've ever been on page 1 for that term!

    Patience is definitely required!

It's normal for new sites. Give it a few months and see where it settles.
Saying that, if the site doesn't have a lot of unique content on it, it won't settle very high.

It does indeed have lots (about 10 pages) of unique content. I plan on adding more in drips as time goes on.

I'm reluctant to pay anyone to do it for me until I know this works. The last thing I want is to spend £50 on good unique content only to have it flop.

So this is a test. Therefore all my own unique content. And if you knew the subject you'd realise how dull and difficult that really is. Bleh.

kungfumobiles - I would imagine you use some form of tracking to know who's using AS. Any guesses which mine is?

If you've got decent, optimised content on there, then you'll do OK, just let Google do its thing for a while. You can spend the waiting time working on more inbound links for the site, if you want to be doing something
