    Hey,

Just wondering if there is a way to modify your install of Wordpress so when you install it on a new site, the plugins will already be activated?

It gets a bit annoying having to manually activate them every time.

    Regards,
    Simon

unfortunely not, however the closed thing to that is: OneClick Installer or PlugInstaller if you're using Wordpress 2.7.1 then you can select all and install all at the same time.

Wordpress Automatic Upgrade (WPAU) is a plugin that automatically upgrades your wordpress version to the latest files provided by wordpress.org.

WordPress releases regular updates and security fixes to the software and after sometime makes it mandatory. Every time you have to manually upgrade your WordPress installation. This plugin helps.

I use a template. Set up one site, get all the plugins you like installed, set up all your other settings just the way you like 'em. Delete out the "dummy" posts if you like.

    Then back up the database.

Setting up a new site is just a case of rolling that out again and a quick find and replace on the backup site script. Search for the original URL you installed it under and replace with the new one. The options table is the one to check over but find and replace should do the job.

I go a step further and just stick to a single WP install, I use the config file to switch to the correct set of db tables - just test the current URL and switch to the right table prefix. This means you can run 200 sites off one install or whatever. Don't worry about having thousands of tables in your MySQl db (some people have millions!). Check out WP Hive(?) which I guess uses the same idea?

So a new site is just a case of copy template, find replace, run the SQL script. Job done! All your fave plugins are there and all your standard settings too. Filling it with something interesting is a very different matter though lol. Prob best to set different passwords for each too !

I wrote a very brief post on it once. I generally develop for e107 (less competition for getting your work noticed lol!) so don't write up much about WP tbh.

I do something quite similar. I have a set of plugins all zipped up that I use regularly so I just need to upload them and unzip them.
