Sounds like a Google penalty. Yes, it has happened to me. No, I didn't do anything to deserve it.

Are you signed up for Google Webmaster Tools? I believe that it shows you if you have a penalty applied to your site.

Cheers for your reply, appreciate it

I think its where its a old site and overtime when moving things around it has accumulated all sorts of c*ap in the html code so needed alot! of housekeeping which im doing at the moemnt

its gone from 131 errors to 86 on the validation code so getting there

Do you think it will come back once google sees its been sorted out?

    did yours come back?

    Cheers

if its not showing as indexed then you may be in trouble, all my sites disappear from searches from time to time, they can always be found though when I type in the url. disappearing is usually followed by a healthy rise in position, if its not indexed then Google may well have banned you.

check the url again and to see if its in there.

have you been link building recently? bought any links in ect

In my case, I lost a high-revenue site.. I think due to content scrapers taking material and generating spammy-looking backlinks. No, it never came back.

The simplest test is this - Google for your domain name. You should ALWAYS be number one for that if you have a developed site. That will at least tell you if you are under a penalty or not.

You can PM me the domain name if you would like me to have a poke at it.

Any idea why it disappeared Max? I'd be so annoyed if this happened to one of mine!

    Cheers Max

Im well confused. Google Webmaster tool actaully says its indexed and not banned

If it was showing up when you put the url in then id be happy, but its not there

Now im convinved niche is definatly the key lol and to put all your eggs in one basket

What i think has happened is its deindexed my homepage but all the other pages are ok.

I did notice a few weeks ago my homepage is indexed but no other pages on the blog
but did have 30 pages of html pages from before i added the blog

Ive taken out the bloated code on the homepage, im wondering if it will be put back in again when google passed by again?

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

ah now i have 126 pages indexed but no index page

if thats the case, that the index page was clogged up... word of warning to wordpress users...

alway check your code hasnt become bloated if you have a page as the homepage and move things around now and again

This has happened to mine, but I don't understand what you mean by 'clogged up'?

I was #6 or #7 in google, now the main page doesnt appear at all in the index, but the other 145 pages do.

What have you done in wordpress to resolve this? The only traffic i'm getting now is long tail and yahoo!!

** ive put # to stop the center commands centering lol **

Thats exactly what mines doing, traffic but alot less

Im using a wordpress page as a static page instead of posts appearing after each other then using a category excluder to stop them appearing on the front page, works well but because of it the code has increased over time when moving things about

With mine it was being clogged up with for example

    <#Center>some text<#center>

<Font face="verdana">some text</font> but where say dreamweaver would move the html commands, when i was moving things around on wordpress, it was adding to the commands so ended up with say....

    <#center><#center><#center><#center>Some text<#/center><#/center><#/center>

I spent a hour going through the code and stripping ALl the html code out to do with centering, fonts etc. THen went back and moved stuff so only the minimal is used

Also, checked it with the w3 compliant site and got 131 errors down to 3

Will post once it gets reindexed, if i gets reindexed

Good luck with yours, hope it comes back for you
