I'm currently spending my Friday night looking into posting on dofollow blogs in order to get backlinks.

I have a few questions that I would appreciate your input on:

    1) How important is it to use your site's keywords as your 'name' when posting to a blog? Some blogs have a message 'saying please use your real name rather than the keywords of your site'. If I do just use a name will my backlinks be worth less, if so how much and is it worth the risk of using keywords and maybe not getting the comment/link accepted.

    2) How important is it that the blog and/or the content of you comment is related to the site you are trying to get a backlink for? If they are completely unrelated will this weaken the backlink in Google's eyes? Not really bothered about human traffic at the momment.

    3) Where is the best place to find reliable lists of blogs that allow do follow comment posts?

    Thanks!

1 - To improve you ranking you need to use your keywords. SEO related blogs are probably less bothered about keyword comments as they understand what you're upto (just make sure you write a decent comment that will get approved).

2 - Doesn't make a bit of difference but you may end up making contacts in the same niche etc if its on topic which will benefit you in the long run. I've also ended up with people following comments on a few occasions from related blogs and making purchases.

3 - There's some software to do this Comment Kahuna | Free Link Building Software or Attract FREE Targeted Traffic | Backlinks | Comment Hut | Incoming Links are two free examples.

Good luck with the commenting! :tup

    What?
Its the MOST important metric you should be using when link building
Google values links from related pages much higher then not.

If you have a site about cats then why would a site about potatoes link to you?
Google looks at the things so dont go spamming loads of dofollow blogs
Do it in moderation and not to much

Unrelated links and spamming are two completely different things.

Posting on blogs, in small numbers on what might not seem as related blogs is not going to cause you any harm. Whilst it is always ideal to have links from sites within the same, or similar niche I'm sure we'll all agree that is not always possible, especially when first starting out on a new site.

Links, from unrelated sites are not going to harm your site. Links from spammy sites or spammy or unnatural behaviour and link profiles on the otherhand will.

it may not do any harm if done in moderation but to say it doesnt matter in my opinion is bad advice

Go ofr related first and then if you feel you still need more look at quality unrelated.
Relevant links will bring more value than unrelated
