So MS's bing.com is live. What do people think, where are your sites ranking? I'm actually pretty impressed, I think it places some of my pages much more accurately (positively and negatively).
My Samsung based netbook site is showing up well in related searches - given it is the leading community site for these machines I think it is right it should show up above one page reviews or merchant pages. So this is better than Google.
Other sites which I throw together using "SEO techniques" are not doing so well. Which I think is also right as they aren't really adding much "value" to the Internet. The exception is my sub domain based set of sites (so keyword.genericdomain.com) that seem to do much better than in Google!
What are your experiences?

I'm wondering about the front page image, not sure what it has to do with Bing/msn or UK?![]()

ha yeah good point, I've never really kept an eye on Live/MSN so perhaps it's all very similar with just another round of marketing spend. Shame.
But that said, I might start giving it a go from time to time and comparing results. I'm not personally convinced Google is always best, I think I just assume it is.
Emperor's new clothes? A bit harsh maybe as the MSN offering is pretty functional if not perfect.
From a volume perspective who cares? MSN has even less volume than Yahoo..... :td

Their promo video made it sound like it would be the mother of all search engines, but, surprise surprise, it's like Live with a pretty picture.
Look at bing - they mirror google! not a news site anymore, just a search box![]()

I think it will be interesting to see what direction they take Bing, Could it spell the end for cashback and voucher code sites??

It is for usGoogle provide over 90% of the searches on all of my websites, therefore I make Google my #1 priority.
Not sure about the name.... 'Bing'?!? Did somebody come up with the name whilst listening to the microwave, its absolutely terrible, at least that is from my opinion, the brand name doesnt sound right to me.
It's got to be better than their current search engine, MSN or is it Live Search? Most people don't know what it's called. IMO Bing is a far better name. Maybe one day we'll be Binging something instead of Googling it.
I just looked up the history of that domain, it dates back to 2003 - Internet Archive Wayback Machine
Welcome to bing.com
bing is a sensational new way to conveniently post mail directly from your desktop PC....there's nothing quite like it! In fact, our service is one of a kind!
How does bing work?...By simply clicking a button on your computer, mail is beamed electronically to a bing post office. Your mail is automatically printed, folded, enveloped and dispatched into the Australia Post network the very same day. A postie will then deliver your letters as normal business mail - all this without even leaving your desk.... bing it on!
Love the pun! :tup
Its just down to opinion, thats all, to me it sounds as if not much thought has gone into the name. Their original was Live.com, which now is pointing to bing, as is their MSN.com based search:
Bing
I just dont understand why they keep chopping and changing things, they are never going to catch up to Google at that rate. Unfortunatly Google is too familiar to web searchers today and at this rate MSN will go backwards, not forwards... but maybe one step back, two forward, who knows?
Dont get me wrong, I will give it a go, I will try anything once, but I cant really see this catching on as much as people think.
The bottom line is that it is a rebranding marketing trick that many online companies use, remember GoTo? Rebranded to Overture > rebranded to YSM (the latter I know because of the buyout). I'll let that one fly though as Overture was a marketing success story in itself. But with this MSN, why couldn't they just use their original name Live.com if they can back it up with their forthcoming new search technology? To me Bing.com sounds as bad as Live.com, but at least I was familiar with Live.com.
I've heard it many times over the years, Altavista, Ask Jeeves, etc were all catching up to the big 3 with their search technologies, now both are still recognisable names, but the reality check is that even with the technology at their disposal it is going to take a bulldozer to knock Google off its perch.
Even through the MSN & Yahoo merger reports I was unconvinced it was enough firepower to topple Google. It would have strengthened MSN and it would go to the wire, but I feel Google are just too strong a name.
On a last note, MSN are looking really desperate to topple Google, and that could be risky, they could end up going backwards in the search industry, not forwards (this compares to the other 2, Google & Yahoo).
I wonder if MSN will get in trouble for using the surname of a very popular TV character from Friends!
