Just been having a look around and have found a number of Twitter accounts for various affiliate networks - Affiliate Window, Affiliate Future and CJ to name just a few.

Rather interested to know how useful people find these twitter accounts? Are they helpful for quickly and frequently finding out about the latest offers, newly added programs etc are or are they really a bit of a gimic???

dgm have a twitter account dgm UK (dgmuk) on Twitter, a few of us also have our own accounts as well:
    HelenMarie21 (HelenMarie21) on Twitter
    Jessica Nathan (Jessnathan) on Twitter
    Kevin (KevMsutton) on Twitter

With regard to how useful it is I think we as a network still have a bit of work to do. It can been seen in two ways, one is that it gives dgm as a company a personality online which I think is important but it can also be a good tool to get communications out very quickly.

A good example of where it works well is I tweeted about a new dynamic linking banner that we had on Haven, immediately a number of affiliates saw it an started using it which I'm not sure we would have got through email. We are finding that email communication is increasingly becoming more of a necessary evil rather than a good communication tool so I do think new channels such as twitter can really help.

I think time will tell how useful it can be ...

    Hi

Webgains are always very keen to keep in touch with merchants and affiliates via every form of communication - msn, email, telephone and now even twitter. We have a general Webgains UK offer feed which you can follow at Webgains (WebgainsUK) on Twitter, we have 164 followers so far.

Members of the team have their own accounts as well, which are as follows -

Marc Gear, Developer Marc Gear (marcgear) on Twitter our top twitterer, who’s’ been tweeting for a while now, good techie tips with some accurate worldly observations.

Alistair Nichols, Head of Agency Sales Alistair Nichols (AlistairNichols) on Twitter mainly gym, merchants and mobile phone website updates.

Emily Do (moi), Business Development Executive Emily Do (Emily_Webgains) on Twitter lots of news from the digital world, debate, interaction & lunch updates as well.

Sheema Luca, International Marketing Director, sheema (sheemaluca) on Twitter, affiliate marketing news, Webgains PR and marketing updates, cheeky & inspirational quotes.

Our team love meeting new affiliates, sharing news, keeping our merchants up to date, updating everyone on events and getting to know people on a personal level, so yes it works for us.
It is a case of getting the balance right with how much to tweet as we don’t want to over tweet, we have work to do although I am somewhat of a chatter box .

I think it’s a great way to keep your finger on the pulse of current affairs, what’s going on in the world of online and affiliate but also break down the formalities & boundaries in the world of work. Working in the online space twitter has opened up a new way to communicate which is tongue in cheek, direct & open to response so I think it’s a great way to grow the business & move with the times.

Keiron has a great guide which we tried to follow Twitter guide for Affiliate Networks

Interestingly, this is what one of our merchants Alex Walker from Virginia Hayward said about twitter -“I was quite skeptical when it came to the commercial aspects and longevity of something like twitter, however a few months ago when we launched our ‘Blast from the Past’ sweet hamper, we noticed that around 10 affiliates had added our links and voucher codes to their twitter profiles. We were astonished and pleased, although it was unsurprising given that entrepreneurial affiliates proved early adopters of such technology. We have embraced this new channel and are waiting to see how it develops.”

It’s good to be where your users are & be part of the tweet affiliate & general community,

    Happy tweeting

I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on merchants using twitter and what the best uses for this would be?

    Afternoon folks,

Affilinet use Twitter too - affilinet UK (affilinetUK) on Twitter

It's yet another nice way to keep our publishers up to date with special announcements, promotions, etc. We usually share the tweeting responsibilities amongst the Publisher Services team.

Hope it's a useful service but I'll keep my eyes peeled for tips and requests as to how to improve the communication further still.

    Have a nice day!

    Hi,

Our account has been up and running for a few months.

We've tried to make a it a mix of industry news and information, updates on the network as well as new programme launches rather than just an extension of our offers blog.

I think we've picked up some useful feedback as well as one intriguing situation when we were pitching for new business and we were the only network involved to pick up on comments made by that client on their Twitter account about which network to choose.

By retweeting we picked up some complimentary feedback from a handful of affiliates that can't have hurt us in winning the business.

Networks do you announce new progs this way? Sometimes I log into networks I don'y use very much that often, yet have new merchants that would fit some of of my sites however you don't post them on here sometimes. An idea perhaps for the Tweeters amongst you?

I follow most of the networks and as expected it's a bit of a mixed bag at the moment.

As the networks get used to Twitter and see that they have a lot of followers I think they will use it more and more as an effective communication channel.

It takes a lot of time and effort to really understand how useful Twitter is and I think everyone starts out as a Twitter sceptic but is soon converted.

Affilinet would include new programs in our tweets...these would also be announced on here and via network newsletters...so hopefully you shouldn't miss anything of this nature

I think if you do follow networks on Twitter you need to do it in the right way to filter out the noise- it can be overwhelming. Definately use a twitter client to sort networks into a different stream, perhaps with extra filters for stuff you're particularly interested in like 'vouchers' or the names of big merchants you work with.

Another tip is to follow merchants who have feeds, you'll definately pick up on what's going on with them quicker than waiting for a network alert. I know for a fact that some of our affiliates have been alerted to stuff going on with us through our twitter feed.

Equally if the programme manager is on twitter follow them. Not only might you pick up some interesting news, but its one more way for you to get in touch with them quickly.

Personally, I tend to follow individual people working for the networks rather than the main feed, but then I don't find programme launch information etc useful as an affiliate would.
