    Hi guys,

I've seen many price comparison sites that feature a number of merchants and that have a similar layout/structure, are there certain price comparison scripts that are more popular than others or are the majority of price compare sites hand coded for the individual site requirements?

What's the best route - Using an established script and then customizing the layout/design to suit
OR Starting from scratch and having a script/backend coded?

Or is this question way too vague to have a definitive answer?

    Thanks,
    Greg

    Hey Greg,

It's possible to fully customise the price comparison units on easy Content Units to fit your site(s) design/layout etc - they're totally flexible, so you can do almost anything with the data without the need for any technical know-how.

Give me a shout if you want to know anything or have any questions.

    Cheers,

    John

It depends on your resources! I use and would recommend Price Tapestry | Affiliate Price Comparison Script for PHP and MySQL

it's a great script and the support from the owner is excellent. There's a great support forum where you can ask for particular modifications and if possible to code will be given to you! Also there's a site called Price Tapestry Templates where you can get a some great templates or commission your own unique template!

also depends if you really mean "PRICE COMPARISON"

a lot of scripts claim to be price comparison but they are not , ther are just scripts to display each product from a datafeed and do no price compare , so if this is what u wanted then you can do that for FREE

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I was interested in a full site price comparison script, so rather than modules to add to an existing site a full-on site script.

Thanks for the link mallyord, I've seen PriceTapestry before, is it quite easy to work with templates and styling using CSS then? Are there running examples of sites using PT so you can see what's possible with that route do you know?

Cheapdvds - I'm right in thinking PriceTapestry offers price comparison in the true sense?

    Thanks everyone,
    Greg

    Hi Greg,

Lots of links to sites running Price Tapestry here.

The script attempts to offer true "price comparison" based on the product name, and to assist with this includes a "Product Mapping" feature that you can use to match up product names where different merchants use different names for the same product.

As a newbie could someone please clarify something for me. If you run a price comparison on your site presumably you wouldn't have all the merchants that show up in a search as being merchants you are affiliated with. Or can you filter so only those that are relevant to your program show?

    Thanks

    Hi Larney,

If you run a script that is installed on your website, you would only import products from merchants whom you are affiliated with into your database - so no need to filter anything - all the results will link via your affiliate URL.

Price Tapestry is easy to use and template, however to get the most out of it you do need some basic HTML and PHP skills.

Alternatively, you could use something like shopwindow, or productserve API from affiliatewindow, and then if you make a sale through a merchant you're not affiliated with, you will automatically become an affiliate of that merchant, this gives you a wider range of merchants prices to show.

if you have the money to buy pricetapestry then do it

it was £200 , that may sound a lot to someone getting started or even for the script but you get so much more than the script for your money.

for that money , you get the code , you get the best support that i have ever seen , David has even been known to help out with non pricetapestry problems.

pricetapestry can be simple or it can be hard , you can just set it up and leave it or you can make loads of mods to do unique things with it but would need to know some PHP etc.

Don't know PHP or understand Mysql not a problem as David will guide you through the mods and you will soon to start to understand PHP etc.

I can not recommend pricetapestry enough , and to be honest its worth just paying the money for the help and support he provides.

    OK enough brown noseing ,
