I thought of a niche. Registered the domain and started the site, getting it up and running and today it made its first sale. But then I realised I've bought the wrong domain!

The one I bought is red widgets and gets 9k exact searches a month.

The one I should've bought is red big widgets which gets 18k searches a month.

I've now registered the 18k one. Both sites would have the same products on as the 9k domain is really just an abreviation of the 18k one.

Should I setup two sites and work on both of them even though they will have pretty much the same products on or should I just work on the 18k one (can I do a redirect?)?

As the site only went live this week and has already made a sale I am quite keen to keep it so not sure what to do.

    Any advice?

Why not get the second one too and do some sort of A/B split testing. As you have already made a sale on the one with 9k searches, its pretty much possible to have similar response on the one with 18k searches too.

Try a new theme/layout/presentation/ on the second one and see what works and what doesn't. It might even get you some good stats wrt to the click through's to the merchant, average visit time etc., which will help you modify your existing/future websites.

P.S - Is the sale on Amazon only? Are you still doing 90% Amazon & 10% Affiliate networks?

    Cheers

Otherwise if you decide you only want one site just upload the pages to the new site and 301 redirect the old site to the new, should work fine.

I'd just use the second site so there is only one set of content to write. If you can get away with static content then, yea, do the AB split. Otherwise, 301 redirect.

Good idea, will look into that. Not sure a 9k exact match search will get enough traffic to do much testing with though.

This sale was from Amazon - the site is about 80/20 Amazon / others.
