In recognition of the infamous My first speculative niche site blog - posted by TheBoyMictchell. Myself and another A4u member (lazypages - learn affiliate marketing) have decided to conduct a wee competition ourselves. We have chosen a niche and will be developing a site to see who can produce the most amount of sales based upon our differing SEO skills/expertise.

    ********************
    Rules of Engagement
    ********************
    1. Sector - oak related furniture (a single product type, e.g. chairs, tables, drawers, beds e.t.c)
    2. Domain needs to be bought by 1st Nov 2009
    3. PPC campaigns are forbidden
    4. No backlinking from any existing sites/self owned sites - new backlinks from other peoples sites are ok. Buying pr articles are ok
    5. The site can use any network/programme - Including adsense and eBay, and can promote an unlimited number of merchants
    6. Earning are from ONE site only - However, You can set up non affiliate portal sites to improve SEO of your main site
    7. Site must be set live on the 15th November. And submitted to google/yahoo for indexing. Do not put any holding page text/information before the 15th.

There will be an optional PPC round of the competition (date to be set)

A fixed 2 Week Period Where all entrants would be allowed to use PPC (before and after this set period, PPC would not be allowed)

    1. A Maximum Campaign Budget would be £50
    2. Any of the three major search engines could be used for PPC.
    3. You do not have to spend £50 if you do not wish to.

We'll be posting our progress on the A4U forum - It should be a fun and exciting experiement.

    Let Battle Commence!!

The winner will be the person with the most PROFIT, not commission. We'll take a reading at the 3 month mark, and then every month there after.

    ******************************
    Update 9th November

Sounds like the Affiliate Challenge a couple of years ago, which was a really great concept that the person who created it got a bit bored with and gave up on.

Good luck with the challenge - look forward to seeing the updates.

Yeah - Although, its nice to work against a fellow A4U member, adds that bit of extra drive and competative edge.

The Affiliate world, can be a lonely one. Hence why this forum is soo popular I suppose

This idea aside, you will often find the sites your are competing with in the general affiliate landscape belong to people on this forum.

Sounds like a good idea, and as you say, good for that additional surge of motivation!

The reason why we choose "oak related furniture", as its something that both of us have little knowledge/experience in. So it's a fairly even playing field as such.

Yeah, anyone can join in and share their experiences, aslong as they follow the same "rules of engagement" as set out above. It'll be interesting to see how we all fair.

Can admin create a "sticky post" so that all the websites/owners taking part can be listed.

Be kinda cool as people can keep tabs on em and see the different techniques being used.

A "sticky post" would be great! - can that be done?

To keep things fair - Domain names should be announced on the 1st of Nov. So that gives you just over a week to put your thinking caps on.

On the 1st Nov, post your domain url, in this thread - It'll be interesting to see what angles people will be coming from.

Yep - thats the rulez bro.

Theres plenty of oak stuff... chairs, tables, desks, mirrors, drawers, beds, e.t.c

Oak Dining table and chairs, as one product would be okay, if you wanna go down that route.

If you went for chairs, you could promote an assortment of different types of chairs, with different oak finishes and styles. Or you could go really really niche, and just create a site that concentrates on one kind of oak finish chair. You could possibly get a more directed domain name. Sup to you

    Got ya stumped already? ha!
