I don't know the details of what he's doing but there's alot worse things he could be doing to make money. The country could lose as many as 40,000 contracted jobs in weeks leading upto Christmas so we should support businesses. I don't agree with PPC of merchants names but their are some people making the money he is taking home trafficing women and selling heroine to single mothers so we should let any 'negative' things slide.

Jealous no, putting to one side if you agree or disagree with the ways he runs his business, its good to see that you can aim high in affiliate marketing and with hard work there is a rainbow of riches to be had!

The thing also is that the market needs high quality sites or knowone will use the Internet. So 'flagship' sites can be a good thing. The only thing I would say if I was in his position I would like to think I would be charitable with the money even if I used it as a good PR exercise.

Think the idea is (well its mine) to make as much money to retire while the sun is shining and get out quick as you never know whats around the corner. So charities will have to go on the back burner.

I don't think jealousy is anything to do with it, there are plenty of big affiliates out there who never get mentioned, never mind accused of anything.

MVC doesn't exactly play by the rules, but not many successful businesses do, thats how they get where they are today.

A lot to do with it is that vc sites are disliked by non vc site owners, and when a vc site is successful it's more likely to be scrutinized, and if enough people complain about it, the more it's scrutinized and the more join in the hate compaigns.

Personally I don't think MVC is doing anything out of the ordinary or really that bad, but it's things I wouldn't do... but thats probably why I will never be rich :-)

I think some things are done on purpose to wind up affiliates, which inturn gets blog post and forum links without any effort.. all Google knows is that it's a link, the more links you get then the higher you will rank. (this is one thing I actually did do years ago.. but that was to wind up SEO experts for link bait and yeah.. it worked!)

Never met him....a very good seo yes.....but scruples, integrity and Mark do not seem to get ever mentioned in the same breath.

    http://www.affiliates4u.com/forums/a...ease-stop.html

Personally I believe he is responsible for a lot of negative views of this industry and notably voucher sites.

Just search on google for his name, his site or even search this forum and you will find the amount of people he has annoyed. Do a similar search for any of the large affiliates and you will find almost nothing.....why would that be?

Mark has the potential to clean up his act and hence the percieved view of AM....but alas he never has tried to.

He wouldn't have got off first base without the collusion of the people at the networks - so he's acquired a bad reputation & made a few quid - and they have lost all credibility and are still working in the same crummy office for the same monthly pay-cheque. Who's the fool

hat off to the guy for what he has achieved , truely amazing that the company has done so well, but how he got the company to that position is another matter.

but as a person he just annoys me , I almost get the impression he is trying to market himself as the next Martin Lewis , and with various interviews and all his claims he just comes across as a tit (ok a rich one)

But let all the industry people suck up to him he clearly enjoys all the attention and clearly deserves the attention as he hasn't harmed the industry with his climb to fame has he?

But for what you have achieved Mark , I admire you

    "Collusion"?

The situation regarding voucher code misuse in honest laymans terms is:

    1) Voucher sites start appearing rapidly as revenue producers
    2) A large proportion of these sites started utilising CTR (Click to Reveal). Mark wasn't the first
    3) Networks, merchants and agencies began to feel that this system and other elements of the model could potentially damage the industries reputation.
    4) The above parties utilised a cross industry initiative in order to maintain the models ability to commercially operate, whilst ensuring that merchants, and consumers were protected from the excesses demonstrated.
    5) The above parties were accused of inaction, collusion and corruption.

I don't understand how 1-4 can possibly lead to 5?

Realistically, what Mark has done is moved away from traditionally accepted "ethics" of the industry (all of which, btw, were unspoken, mostly assumed and bendable where appropriate). He doesn't engage on a "cultural" level with the market - and thats fine. Collectively we are now considerably more focused on ensuring the long term survival of the industry and are actively involved in a myriad of initiatives to ensure that "ethics" are not an assumed way of operating, but an imperative one.

There is no reason why any operator "should" engage with the wider community. What is needed, and the only thing that was lacking is structures and regulations to ensure that the industries growth is underpinned by a long term commitment to its chief stakeholders.
