You could try Twitter Tips - TwiTip

I dont think its going to be that much use unless your targeting something very specific.

Their are applications which can help you bulk follow people but they are normally set to a limit of about 200 a day.

    'Twilocal' or something like that.

Was going to mention Darren Rose's twitip too.

The problem I find is that many seem to use Twitter "incorrectly" - if I may be so bold to suggest that is possible !

Over the last year I have made several observations...
    • Affiliate marketers who just follow people in the hope that they follow them back. So you see lots of people with 10,000 followers who are following 10,000 people. You follow me, I follow you. Of course you cannot possibly follow 10,000 people! That would be a lot of messages to read. So all these people aren't really paying attention to anyone. You can tweet out but who will see it?
    • Marketers who just spam deals endlessly. Strangely, no one really wants that in their twitter feed!
    • And then there are people who seem to get it. They only follow people who they are interested in conversing with. If lots of people follow them too then that's fine, but they resist the temptation to auto follow back because they don't really know who all these people are!

On that Note... I'd love to collect a few of you guys together on a list. Forget the US "a list" bloggers, let's get a small group of UK affiliates together...

A Twitter List of UK Affiliate People

    I'm @jezza101

PM or post your ID and I'll add you to the list . I'll keep it as a4u members only - we seem like a good pedigree !

Kieron wrote a very useful post on his blog a while back, demonstrating how you can find followers and the benefits of communicating via Twitter:

How to use Twitter to grow your online business

    Hope that helps.

Does it take up a lot of time to use twitter effectively?

If it does I'm not sure I'm ready for the commitment, but I regd my name a while ago and last time I looked there were a few people following me even though there's nothing on it. Why would someone want to follow an empty twitter??

jezaff - will check out your list

Unfortunately they are probably bots. They follow you automatically in the hope that they follow you back. Ironically the only people who will follow them back are probably bots too! So you get 1000's of bots following 1000's of other bots. Poetic justice perhaps? What a waste of time for all involved!

Generally it doesn't matter if bots follow you, you can block them, or ignore them, it has little impact on what you see or how you use twitter. The real key to using twitter well (imo!) is following the right people yourself. I hope the above mentioned twitter list will help get a few like minded a4u people talking ! If you don't follow people you are interested in then your twitter feed, obviously, becomes very uninteresting to you!

The other thing that really helped was using Welcome to HootSuite - The Professional Twitter Client, there are others like tweetdeck etc too that do a similar thing. You can then have saved searches that you can follow. For example I have a few of the products I promote (for example the Samsung Netbook range) on saved search so that I can pick up on any buzz very quickly and make sure I get a post out on time!

I added a couple of people to the list already - please PM or add your IDs and I'll add them to the list !

What I have been doing is using bit.ly so I can track how many clicks I am getting from my links on twitter. I only started doing this within the last week, but already I have got 10 followers. But my records indicate the clicks are not coming from my followers, rather from the search engines. So somehow, when I post a link on Twitter, although my followers may be random / bots / couldn't care less (not me, I care, I mean if they are only following me even though they don't know what services I am offering) , I am still getting hits from the organic searches. So it seems.

I am building up a following on twitter for my site Facebook Statuses - Funny facebook status, facebook status

Firstly I did a search on twitter for people with similar interests (jokes, one liners, facebook etc) and I started following them. after a few days I picked up some of their followers.

Then I installed the twitter updater plugin to my wordpress site, which updates my twitter evertime I update my website. It also adds a link.

It's early days yet, but I am getting a view visitors so I will keep working at it.

Only problem is that my site is not really very good for monotising, so I'm only earning about £1 a day haha

But its fun, and im using it to experiment.
