    Hi all,

I've been learning quite a bit more about SEO and how to choose better titles and content for my various posts. Right now I have a couple of posts in my blog that are my main product sections. I have realized that the way I titled them produces far too many Google results and am finding it difficult to get my ranking up higher. I have found some similar titles that would produce far less results. My question is if I modify the post titles and content, will Google pick that up? Or should I just create a new post that is better SEO optimized but duplicates some of my prior content?

Hope that makes sense, thank you!

Just change the title tag and google will pick it up the next time it caches the site. Just don't change the URL.

    Thanks,

I've actually changed the URLs of my posts before but didn't think it was an issue? What happens when I do? Does it take longer for google to pick it up?

    Thanks!!

Dupe content. 404 errors and eventually a loss of rankings are yours if you keep changing url's.

Google doesn't like a website thats constantly in turmoil. You'll get far better results by slowly building/adding and making sure whats already there is bedded in nicely with a few links.

Wow thanks! I really had no idea about this. My thinking was to change both my URL (after the index) page to fit a term that produced fewer google results. If I change my title only, will it still be as effective if I had the proper URL and title in the first place?

Perhaps I should just create the same post but with different title and URL, or would that flag duplicate content as well?

Thanks again, glad I'm getting this info early...hopefully my ranking can go up now that I'm not changing URLs.

Its all part of the service:

Your far better off thinking about what your going to do with your site months in advance. The keywords you want under your belt and the different paths visitors will take through it. Then write each page and take your time over it

For sure, didn't realize how important it was for naming URLs!

So what should I do now? I'm thinking I should rename my poorly named pages/posts and hope google will eventually come back. But I'm all ears!

Rather than rename the posts, which may change the url, grab the All in One SEO plugin and just change the title tag and description of the post.

I actually have the All In One SEO plugin already installed. So I just need to change the All In One SEO title and description, and not the actual post title? I always thought you'd have to do both

Changing the title is not enough, when you put keyword in All in one SEO you should enter low competative keywords. However ranking is depend upon many aspects.

I know I have to more to get my ranking up, but is it safe to change both my post title and post slug, or is the title sufficient enough? I'm putting all other factors aside right and just concnetrating on adding good worded post titles and slugs. I just don't want to be penalized for changing the slug.
