We have had our business account with the Norwich and Peterborough for years. However, they are now putting their business account charges up quite a bit.
So I wondered, which bank or building society do you use for your business account?
It has to be a true business account as our company is limited.
TIA
Jill
Speak with your current bs and tell them if charges are not reduced or dropped altogether you're leaving them.
Always worth a try.
With Bank of scotland and it's free (except if your balance is less than 5k they charge you 40p a cheque)
I've been with Abbey for a few years and they have been good, and its free banking 'forever'.
Ditto Abbey (or Santander as they're now called). I've had a business account with them for about 5 years, they don't charge anything unless you make a very large amount of transactions a month. Never had any problems with them (yet).
Nothing to see here
Excellent timing - was just about to ask for recommendations myself :drool
I was just discussing setting up a business account with the mrs this morning. Spooky that is. Looking forward to hearing more opinions on this one.
Dear All
This may be where my boring past life comes into its own. I used to be a business manager and then went on to work for Moneyfacts who compile and rate business accounts.
It kind of depends what you are looking for.
Abbey are good as long as you are in credit and you do not want to have a bank manager.
RBS/NatWest and Lloyds TSB all give you access to a Bank Manager who should be in post for up to 4 years. The theory is that this allows you to build up a relationship.
I have personally found bank of Scotland/HBOS to be quite good and it is telephone based like Abbey.
You should get 12 months free banking if you transfer in or Start Up with any of the
aforemenetioned banks.
My only tip would be not to have your business bank with the same bank that provides your personal banking, just in case things go the way of the pear.
There is a website called Business Mule if you want to compare providers.

Thanks for all the replies. Will have a look at Abbey. I perhaps should have mentioned we are also probably limited to who has a branch in our nearest small market town!
Good point about all accounts being with one bank/bs - we have always had all our accounts with the same bs!
I have just signed up with Abbey for my limited company, as free for life :tup

Does anyone have any thoughts/feedback on either Nat West or Barclays?
I have had accounts with natwest and barclays both were poor to me,
Natwest were the worst by far, I had a streamline chip and pin machine of them which never worked, they charged so much money for it, and when i moved banks they sent me a bill for £1000, AVOID LIKE PLAGUE
Barclays were not so bad just charge alot for fees etc, Then moved to Llodys but they were crap to be honest never there when you needed them, and could not set me up a chip and pin machine, should be called LAZY TSB
Now After all this I ended up with Alliance & leichester now to become santan what ever lol.
Free banking i can always speak to somone on the phone UK call centres, Free overdraft, High cash card limit, never had any issues with them.
Hope this helps

What do you recommend for a new affiliate then? If my costs are going to be low, ie... domain and web hosting. Is it still advisable to keep the account seperate from a personal account? I would think it makes sense to.
When I start bringing money in (if I do) I don't even know how to do my taxes! Nor have I registered myself as self employed, is there any point yet whilst I've not made any money yet. I also have a full time job, does that complicate things in terms of taxes? I think maybe I should have started my own thread now!
