What is a good conversion rate?I have just received a Merchant marketing email from AW.. I will quote them...
To have a good conversion rate on your site. Over 1% is normally enough.
Is 1% good?? What would you expect as a conversion??

A good conversion is one that gives you a good ROI.
I agree with Carl, for example if I pay £100 to promote a merchant and I send them 1000 users and it's conversion rate is 0.5% but because the item is so high valued and so out of the reach of most and I make £50 commission per sale and managed to get 5 users to buy, then as far as I am concerned this is a fantastic return on my investment (just made £250, spend £100 to get it and ended up with £150 in my pocket) and so makes a great conversion rate for that merchant.
* I am aware that my maths may be slightly flawed, just a quick postto get a point across.
I see your point, not all products are of high value and you would
need a better conversion..

Conversion rate is the number of visitors to your website who convert into customers.
I am not sure about the 1% figure (but what do i know) as its very dependant on a lot of thing as to what represents a 'good' conversion
Having not read the merchants marketing email I dont know what context this was used, but website's conversion rates vary greatly from site to site (a free competition entry site should have a much higher conversion than say... a florist)
A high conversion rate is not much use unless you take into account the ticket value of the items or services availiable (as both Supercod and Freebie say above)
