Interesting idea, not sure how it could work in practice, but interesting.

wwwwoooooooooooo I turn my back for one second and all hell breaks loose. Can we all not just get along. Sorry for the late reply on this thread I was in the car park at R.O.EYE HQ clubbing affiliates to death for not generating any clicks or impressions

Steady Eddie. Some of us are actually busy trying to grow our programme and working with affiliates to ensure they are generating sales. I don't have time to sit on the forum all day......

A great thread with some fantastic ideas and opinions. I think it is safe to say that we all don't agree with the culling of affiliates idea.

Lets all remember that opinions are just that, opinions, there is no wrong or right way its just peoples way of doing things. That way is inevitable different.

Lets dedicate this thread to Ken who stuck his neck on the line to offer his valuable opinion and ideas. He is a great guy and does a fantastic job.

Agree strongly with the segmentation strategy as that will concentrate the mind on where the volume might come from short, medium and long term.
Why spend time even thinking about removing affiliates - I don't get it. One of them could be keeping very quiet because they've got a big launch and a pot of money in a year - knock them off and they won't be impressed.

There will be affiliates generating plenty of sales.
Then there will be big affiliates not generating sales (potential).
Then affiliates with potentially interesting sites for merchants who are not yet generating many sales
    etc. etc.

A talk with a network can uncover the top 50 easier than trawling through all affilaites.

A bit o/t, but from a merchants point of view I'm sure the old sales adage applies, that its easier to get more sales from an existing customer.
So, how many merchants actively contact their best affiiliates to see how they might get extra sales ? 80/20 rule and all that.

The concept of kicking affiliates off for not sending traffic is madness. Lets use a real world example. I've signed up to promote a football shirt program at affiliatefuture. I signed up maybe 18 months back. I own a couple of very strong authority sites in that niche.

Immediately after signing up, I decided to rank a lot of pages for "team whatever football shirts" etc. This was working well, I was pushing about £1000-1500 in sales a month to the merchant. After a while I decided I'd rather promote internal pages on my sites so I deleted all those pages in question. I now obviously send them no traffic or sales.

Should I be deleted from this program?

Looking at it from the perspective of the merchant or affiliate company, it would be bizarre to delete me from this. I'm not sending them anything now sure, but if I decide I want to again I can turn that natural traffic back on and easily send them £1000 a month. Since I stopped sending them traffic, I've not once spoken the the affiliate team, or taken up their resources in any way. I'm just a number in a database.
Goodbye everyone, I've retired from public forums. If you know it, you can reach me on my email address. Thanks.

huh? so why start a discussion if you can't participate for 4 days?
    talk about taking things personally

I guess all those people who contributed to the 95 posts are lazy buggers with nothing better to do with their time.
