A year has passed - and I
am now a fully qualified internet geek!
I was - until last week spending about 12 hours a day online, and 6.5 days a week. In this time I built - with my hubby - 60 or so sites. This was mostly down to meeting a guy at a property investor meeting in a pub last year (Kevin), and then finding this site !!!!
Last years resolution was to build 100 sites. I have 60 main domains and 14 subdomains. I just wanted to share a bit of how I got there - and then tell you my next years resolution.
I got really cheesed off with trying to think of a new domain name every time I had an idea for a shop / store/ community or info site. It has been costing me a small fortune.
I came up with the idea of using one domain name - and creating subdomains (I
am sure other people do this too - but I want to share my experiences)
So basically I used sites like
Nameroute and searched for store type words - then found www.store.uk.com and a few others like it.
So set up websites like www.computer.store.uk.com and www.cashflow.store.uk.com and lots more like it. This kept my urls fairly short and snappy and also kind of seems to show an authority I think.
I bought the store name as I said - and basically worked on individual sites - by using
Neureal Hosting and their subdomain setup (which is free to have as many subdomains as you like once you pay for their hosting)
I then cottoned on to the oscommerce shops (these were included into
Neureal Hosting and I just switched it on. - hey presto I had a shop! (like www.cashflow.store.uk.com and www.housemouseuk.com/catalog)
Then from that I grew more interested in having other features around my shops - and found
Nuke system - a great online management system that you add on modules and blocks- to make pretty funky sites. I found OS4Nuke which was an oscommerce shop that could be added to NUKE (see www.tool.store.uk.com to see what I mean tho ignore images this one is still new and not launched)
Now believe me - I had no experience of HTML, PHP, Open source software etc but totally taught myself by using and searching lots of discussion forums like this one (thanks guys) and by trial and error.
I have now got quite a few number one sites and can get into google in about 4 days, and normally front page moving upto top in a few weeks.
I found a lot of useful sites on the way that have helped me and affiliated with a lot of them as I will eventually build a site on how I built my sites lol
Clickbank was an interesting one, got me interested in writing a course for property investors and selling it but then someone had already written on and I made over £600 for the 1st 3 months just by selling it on housemouse (my main site). My hubby then wrote a course that we will launch ourselves but we will not market it just yet in the click back way (to shy)
Bravenet tools helped me a lot they do free chatrooms, counters, form sending etc. And whilst I used them in the beginning, I can now write some of my own code or have found other open source material. It was a great way to get started tho.
So basically why have I written this? Well I have had time to reflect on why I
am where I
am now and figured that if my info can help one person then why not? I would have loved to hear other peoples stories when I 1st started.
I always thought internet geeks were young lads who learned how to use a pc from a young age by playing games, then eventually got into hacking etc but me well having 60 sites, running several communities myself, makes me a true geek and I
am 30 and only learned about websites at 28 ish and really got going at 29!
So even if you are new to affiliate marketing the internet is still young most people do not optimize their site, as they dont know how to so I know there is still a good chance to get to the top!
I wish you well the internet currently pulls in about £800 - £1000 a week for me some of it is manual ie posting stock but still I think from £0 - £1000 in a year I have something to be proud of!
I aim to go over all of my sites, and refine them to all be number one this coming year and thats my next new years resolution I would also like to get into writing a bit more and holding seminars on making money.
