i did my christmas shopping online this year for the first time...using my affiliate links, other peoples affiliate links and shops with no affiliate program...

    heres my consumer analysis...

    Amazon...well what can i say...amazon works...5 stars

    ASOS ... fantastic process...selecting from the site...checkout...confirmation emails...delivery...5 stars

Argos ...how simple is Argos to use...did click & collect cos i was going to town anyways and didnt want to wait in for delivery...4 stars

BMX Shop ...heres where i reached for the phone...found what i wanted on the site...then phoned my order in...delivery 2 days later...wow...5 stars

Currys ...beware...the following contains scenes of a displeasured nature...
ordered on the 12th...a pleasure of a website...phoned them on 18th...they told me my order might not arrive before christmas!?!?!...its the 21st...no word from Currys...not good enough Currys...2 stars

RouteOne ...clean...simple...fast delivery...love route one...get an affiliate program please!!...5 stars

what are your experiences of christmas shopping online this year?

All the above with the exception of currys will become the core of my new site...even the ones without an affiliate program...when they start getting hits from my site...they'll soon begin to think about it!!

    Merry Christmas
    Tony

Mmmmm it almost works, and customer service is shocking!

I ordered some items on the 11th and then some more on the 12th ... the ones from the 12th turned up end of last week. The ones from the 11th I got notice that 2 of the 3 items shipped on Friday (I still have no idea if they will turn up as they are not here yet) and the 3rd item that happens to be one of Disney's biggest DVD hits and every shop has it but Amazon for some reason can't get it.

Also add to that a 4th item that said was in stock when I ordered and was in stock for a few days later suddenly became out of stock. Automatic help line says they put 1 a side for me, but person in customer support said they didn't so removed it from my order on the 15th to see if that would speed things up.. it didn't!

Anyway not happy, with the excuess given. They said it's Christmas and it's really busy, I was like you know about Christmas all year to get staff in and you still never managed to hire the right amount of people.

So nil points for Amazon for me.

By the way GamePlay I ordered on Wednesday and it turned up on Friday.. now that is service, when they say something is in stock, they actually have the stock and are not talking about ordering it from a supplier.

Yep loved the site. One thing I'd recommend (forgot to mail Jess) is that after you've added an item to your basked it takes you back to the search results or the page before you got to the product view (is that history-3?)

Splash DVD always deliver in about a month for me!

I've also had one or two problems with Amazon this Christmas. Made an order on the 9th, still isn't here, customer service isn't the best.

Littlewoods, I ordered a product in the afternoon and it was there the next morning!!

    This year

    ASOS - excellent 5*****

WHSmith - went for option to have items delivered to store- first one has arrived and I collected - though the staff at my local store weren't sure where they had put it or what to do with it but they found it eventually. Second item should be at my local store tomorrow I hope - the WHSmith order tracking screen shows it as delivered.

Gadgets.co.uk - took a while to authorise credit card but once they did so item arrived next day.

I'm glad somebody appreciates it, i've only had 3 days off in the last 3 months

Littlewoods Index - shocking website, no info on christmas delivery times, I know people who have no experience with the internet at all that are running ecommerce sites better than this

Argos - Couldn't be better, you can actually check stock availability in your local store , technically you can't fault it. However they were out of stock of all the items i wanted at every branch so not much good really

Dancematshop.com - placed an order yesterday and they reckon it will get to me before christmas , not a great site but they can sell you the products they advertise in time for christmas which is one up on argos

I have to say that i'm really disappointed in my online christmas shopping experience this year, One thing I have learned is that the independents are much better than the big high street names, they put far more effort into getting things right! The big boys need to take note as they're giving internet shopping a bad name.

Gameplay - excellent - very fast delivery

AMazon - let me down badly last year I so bought during November this year and it was ok - website faultless if a bit confusing when you want to change details.

MailOrderExpress - huge range but several toys out of stock when it came to shipping which is frustrating as you think you have everything sorted and have to start again (and pay another delivery charge on another site). Also charge £4 delivery even on orders of over £200

IWant One of Those - I got a good deal here and the cheapest price for the things I wanted plus delivery very fast. Usually these top boy toy sites are dear so I pick what I want there and get search for them cheaper elsewhere (roll on Froogle).

CDWow - cheap and fast what else do you need?

Thorntons - fast but chocs were cheaper in the shops.

Hawkins - website ok but catalogue good and you can shop from the catalogue on line however the basket is dreadful.

Ray Mears website - very clunky but where else can you get a steel to light fires and a signed copy of his book?

Dress-for-less - was nervous about this, but other than some communication still being in German, excellent. Very good prices too.

Firebox - searched, purchased .... delivered (slightly longer than normal, but still well within time).

Amazon - very easy to search across a range of items, although there were a few technical problems with adding to my basket which prevented me ordering on one day. Would normally have lost my custom to another site but had a DVD that no-one else had and didn't want to break up delivery because it was free for the order amount.

Amazon Marketplace - a calculated gamble on a rarely available DVD at a very reasonable price. Researched the seller but alas have not yet received the product (although they have promised to send 'another' copy).

One quick one on ASOS. A colleague ordered a necklace on the 12th but has not yet received it, and has not had a reply to two emails sent. I have always heard such good things, and recommended them to her. Can't see a phone number to contact customer services

My partner managed to do most of the shopping before I could do it online

Amazon - faultless. Fast delivery, very good prices (DVD player)
    *****

Gadgetstuff - Great site, decent buying process, delivery (£5.99) took just over the 48 hours (working days) than promised.

Graeme from this board (also Director at UK Internet Sites Ltd) won photo of the week for his USB Chrimbo Tree photo.

    http://www.firebox.com/ (middle right hand side)

Think it's the first thing he bought online where they company has paid him.. £9.95 for the gadget, £50 back for the photo. He didn't even use our affiliate links to buy it in the first place.. I don't know some people! Anyway in future if no one has taken a picture I would recommend you send one in as it can pay off nicely.

    From the other side..

I run a shop - and it clearly states "please allow upto 28 days delivery"

I have had so much hassle this xmas with people emailing me asking me where there order is, when they only ordered it about 7 days prior - and the amount of people wanting to have the item delivered 1st so they could pay on deliver etc.

I have had lots of people wanting invoices, special receipts etc.

I just want a quiet life - I go to the post office once a fortnight, and like to just easily process simple orders - its a "semi - passive" income that people are making complicated!

    Bahhh humbug.

I had some calls where people suggeested I should do what they said because they were a customer, and I should do what people want!

Its my shop - I will run it how I want!
