    Sex? Computers? Cars?

Simple - it is not just those things - but how we present them - and how we get people to come back.

I have been thinking about the internet for a long time now - and running around 60 sites on lots of different topics I have come to realise what works for me - I feel like sharing some of that today.

Build a site that is based around something that people are interested in - I believe this will work better if it is something that is close to your heart - and something you have personal experience in - that you can be seen as an "expert" in it. Pick a hobby for example.

Dont put an advertising on the site at this stage - unless it is totally relevant. You need to draw people in who will grow to trust and respect you. You can start with just a simple forum - and nothing else.

Then build a community around this hobby - how do I build a community I hear you ask? Where will the people come from?

Well for me, I built my property investing community of the back of several others. There were a lot of communities in property - but all of them were not moderated very well, and had lots of childish people posting rubbish - this was putting genuine people off using the boards - and people would post a few times and go away. I posted on all of these boards - helping lots of people who wanted to start property investing, and people respected my point of view.

I presented a "moderated" forum for them, and a safe place for them to post where there was no advertising and no rude people. People came because they were sick of the other communities and childish comments - and really wanted to learn.

When you have your community - slowly phase in little services - ie sell things that are related to your field - ie games, books, toys. Then if your up for it - start a regular meeting once a month for like minded people - this will attract more people.

go along to events - and make yourself known to people in the industry - get more "experts" on board - who may also make money by joining your community and at the same time be adding value to it.

Gradually you will get a list of FAQ together - as a result of your community - this is when you start your information section - and add in the advertising to "support" the work gone into your site.

This is just an idea of how to get started in making money on a website - and getting repeat traffic and making money on "related" items that are relevant to your people.

Your site - if it is busy will easily get to the top in google - as people will start to link back to it and by default that will make it even busier.

I would say you need to look at a 1 year plan to get a community up and running - and register as a few people yourself at the begining - posting and answering questions youreslf. Try and post at least once a day to keep it alive.

I run the most popular property community in the UK - it generates about 2 - 5 k a month - depending on if I hold any events or not. It takes me 1 hour a day to moderate it and answer any posts that require my attention.

    I hour a day = £2k +

Thats got to be worth it! But it was not easy - it took dedication - determination - and it took a lot of work to get it where it is.

It amazes me just what you can earn money from.

I've got a mini site (about 6 pages) that I knocked together in about an hour nearly a year ago, and haven't touched since then.

It's been earning between £100 and £200 per month since it got into the SEs.

OK it's not a large amount of money - but for a total investment of 1 hour of my time - I'm getting £100 a month. Where else could you get a return like that.

Splinter sites are good though didnt start making money until the cocked up url and that started off as 1 page only or 2 with a site map and now database driven, php and new design.

Yeah, but then I'd have to waste time going to sign on and I'd have people sending me for interviews for jobs that I'm not interested in.

    Hi Lea

I hear you and did quite a lot of research before choosing my niche. I've also been lucky enough to have Lowndsy on my side and he's come up with some nice slick scripts to help bring the money in without making my site look like a commercial. It's been up since March and has been a lot of hard work and late nights.

There's still a long way to go but it's just started to bring in some money. If you could let me know of any improvements I could make I would be grateful.

Put your sunglasses on before you click the link tho.... be warned!

Mark Norville...now there's a blast from the past! Anybody know if he's still active in AM and how he's getting on? Some of his posts used to make me laugh.

Last I heard Mark is still active in affiliate marketing and doing reasonably well out of it too.
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.

I read the first post and never loked at the date, then when I scrolled down I saw Mark Norville as a poster complete with Avitar, I began to wonder if the mods had gone soft and allowed him back, using is original name!

You really need to read his posts at http://www.a4uforum.co.uk/search.php?searchid=115235

Most of the real gems were deleted by the mods.
