You know what I didnt even look at the date of the thread, I found it ranking on page 1 of Google while running some searches. I'm not belittling inhouse affiliate managers at all, simply saying that very few are proactive and really willing to befriend their affiliates. The best kind of affiliate manager is an inhouse one that spends all day working with affiliates and recruiting new ones. I do own an affiliate management company and I am also am an affiliate of thousands of programs so I know the "norm" for affiliate manager behavior thats all. As long as affiliates are being managed properly and with care I have no qualms. In my opinion this is what it takes to really get a broad affiliate activation rate which then leads to increases in revenue from your affiliate channel. I definitely need to start posting more here, I spend most of my time on DigitalPoint but from what Im seeing Affiliates4U looks absolutely incredible these days!

I still don't think that branding the 'vast majority' of Affiliate Managers as 'fairly lazy' is a good attitude to take. Particularly given that most Affiliate Managers who spend time on here are likely to be proactive and looking to recruit new affiliates.

It is also, dare I say it, a very bad way of publicising your company! Instead of making broad generalisations, why not make some constructive criticisms, or raise some ways affiliate management can be done well. Perhaps you could consider contributing to the AMC part of the forum, where we're trying to develop some Best Practice guidelines.

Whatever your own experience with Affiliate Managers, I've met a lot of inhouse managers who spend vast amounts of time and effort on their programme. I think your view may be tainted by managers who have affiliate management tacked onto their full time marketing jobs and aren't allocated the resources to manage a programme effectively. For some it can be an uphill struggle even convincing senior management to take affiliate marketing seriously! Thank god this is changing fast.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, it is a great place for debate, provided it is considered and informed

Im not looking to publicize my company at all. Any affiliate managers that spend time on this site are probably not fairly lazy at all....I can only speak from experience and being an affiliate (of mostly US programs) over the years. I would love to contribute to best practices. I think I am defintely informed!
