What's the difference between addon domains and subdomains as I've the option for 2 addons with my host?

I think that an addon domain would just be the same as your domain, its like the domain but its goes to the hosted site as well. So its spiderable, better than a redirect. So like your addon domain would be the same site as your normal domain.

subdomains are just like something.yourstie.com etc

Say your main site was myfreewidgets.com then you also had mycheapwidgets.com you can then point the second domain to the same webspace as the first domain.

Two things though.

1) Make sure the new domain name is properly mapped to your site rather than clumsily redirected

2) Be careful search engines don't spider your site under both names and decide they are idential and hence copying. It shouldn't happen - all it needs is an IP address check but it has been known to.
