McAfee have an affiliate program on Tradedoubler. Are they then letting their links through and blocking everyone else? If so why are Tradedoubler supporting McAfee?

Thats an interesting point. Do we have any way of finding out what 'rules' not to break ? Not really. So they could be letting exactly what they want through - starting with their own aff. links.

Catch 22 as far as I can see.

And as far as they are concerned its up to us to sort out our own camp so as not to 'transgress the unwritten rules'. Perhaps they've watched too much Monty Python, but its not funny.

Anybody that I invite into my "castle" that steals from me is not welcome again.

Why is any aff promoting McAfee or Norton ?

In fact "we" should be using our marketing abilities to slag it

Well a while ago I wasn't an aff. for either of them. Then I joined up, left it a few weeks and then withdrew, emailing them the reasons to make my personal point.

Just imagine their pleasure if they got a flood of new affiliates and the opposite effect if they then all withdrew a few weeks later. Hmmm. Not that I would advocate any sort of action like that of course.

Anyone know the % of PC users who have Norton installed on their PCs?

Norton cunningly install their own firewall on an XP machine by telling the user "Norton Firewall as the default firewall (Recommened)". I just clicked it thinking great idea. Glad I did as I can now see loads of my affiliate links vanished from sight (site!).

Just wanted to bring this thread back to the top.

Just installed Norton Internet Security 2005 and Ad Blocking is OFF by default. Turn it on though and things start to disappear!

Thanks Jack for confirming that. I have just started hearing that Norton changed the default - yea!

I have been fighting the Norton battle for over a year with this page: http://www.5staraffiliateprograms.co...s-revenue.html
and several articles that have been published.

JUST MADE AN IMPORTANT AND EXCITING UPDATE - We all have a voice and can make it heard to affect change, even with a big company like Symantec. I just got a message that the 2005 version has been changed. "My NIS 2005 shipped to me with default ad blocking OFF. When I went into the control panel to switch ad blocking on, it gave me a big warning that web pages may not display as intended and are you sure you want to enable ad blocking." Thanks for listening Symantec. That's what we wanted to see.

Leaving my Norton page up for information purposes since many users still have the old software with ad blocking on by default and webmasters still keep wondering why their ads don't show.

That's great news, they actually listened. I think I have seen a program that claims to be able to prevent all this norton ad blocking but I'm doubtful of it working. However, it is a free php script I think so if I can find the link I'll get it down and someone can try it out.

I'm not sure I'd say thanks - they've only done what they should have done in the first place. I'd say "about time!".

It's also probably only due to some legal noises having been made by some of the internet big advertisers too.

    I'm such a cynic ;-0
