  Asked to remove link -

I am contacting you on behalf of my client Johnson & Johnson.MSD who produce Pepcidtwo, Imodium, Motilium and Daktarin. They are aware of your link to their web site and have asked me to contact you. They would be grateful if you could remove the link to their site, as they do not wish to drive "freebie" users to the J&J.MSD website.

Could you let me know when this will be done?

The link is for Pepcidtwo within the following URL

So anyone else had this yet?
And should I remove the link?

I had something similar.

Can understand their view to a point... but think perhaps they should realise that if they run a competition or giveaway a freebie people will find out about one way or another - even if websites remove links.

I did ask them if they could clarify whether J&J have a policy of running prize draws that they didn't want people to enter though - just so that our users who buy their products knew about it.

We regularly get emails like this from sites who don't appreciate the traffic. We always remove the links, not worth the hassle.

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Why can't you include a link to any damn site you like on your own site - as long as it's not offensive, derogatory or misleading?

I appreciate that as far as Johnson & Johnson are concerned you may appear to be degrading the "quality" of their customers - particularly if the competition is designed to reward customer loyalty - but you are also promoting their products to a much wider audience.

If I were you, I'd offer to remove any reference to specific competitions, but stand your ground on linking to the site. That way, you could include a link that says "J&J may or may not be running a competition RIGHT NOW (offering XYZ) - click here to find out/visit the web site" or even "We're not allowed to say if J&J is running a competition right now - click here to find out".

What can they do? Nothing!

They might be a big company but there's absolutely no way in hell they can do anything about it because legally they don't have a leg to stand on.

If they did threaten to take you to court then i'd go because you could be looking at a nice damages payout when you win (which is 100% guaranteed)

Well they problem have a army of solicitors on there payroll
even if your right
they take you to court you win you get awarded costs
you have to take them to court to get them
and the only people who win is your solicitors and there's

Leave freedom of speech to those who have bigger pockets than you

zapo - if I told you never to post another message on this board would you listen to me? Proably not.

What if I told you I'd pursue you through every court in the land if you didn't stop posting - would you really back down?

Don't tell me that you would - nah, you'd stick two finger up to me and quite right too!

We just remove them, really isn't worth the hassle!

Cheers,

Do they want freebie hunters with no money burning their bandwidth, costing money and wasting time
Don't agree with that part of the post. We have a higher % of sales than leads from our 'freebie hunters with no money'. They aint any different than your traffic. They need to learn how to use the traffic. It's easy to cover bandwidth costs.

Should still remove it though

Sorry for the edit, i didn't get my point accross

Its their free branding they're losing out on.
I've removed the link. Yes it would be fun saying no to them but I can't be arsed - I've got better things to do with my time - like doctor penguin pictures

If a site offers something for free (e.g. a free voucher) or runs a competition - chances are someone somewhere will find out about it. Whether they find it from a newsgroup, a search engine or website dedicated to finding these things.

My guess is the company (J&J) have asked the agency "how's our website doing" and the agency have to say "erm, well apart from people interested in competitions and free vouchers, we've done nowt".

So the agency blame the sites who have sent the traffic, rather than themselves who really haven't a clue how to run a web promotion - because if they knew that "free coupon" will attract people interested in such things, they'd not be in their current predicament.
