    Hello,

I'm a new member to this forum and the affiliate programme and I'm after a bit of help!

Thanks for not closing this thread straight away!!!

I joined the affiliate programme to promote Universal Playback and although we have revised and created new graphical banners and text links we're having trouble converting page impressions into sales. We're currently offering a free DVD of your choice (excluding box sets) to any affiliate who sells 10 titles by the end of Feb and £50 plus free DVDs (excluding box sets) to any affiliate who sells 20 titles by the end of Feb - all great incentives I'm sure you'll agree. Our rate of commission is 10%.

Sites have so far been very interested in Unviersal Playback and have downloaded banners and text links, our problem is that they're just not converting into sales.

I'd really appreciate your suggestions about where we're going wrong and how we can fix it!

    Cheers,
    Ruth.

    Welcome to the forum Ruth.

I just joined your program today so havent yet seen for myself how traffic converts. (its on TD by the way)

First impressions are that it is a well constructed site however those java script drop down menus make navigation difficult for some users. I'm not saying ditch them but the addition of standard links to the main categories on all pages would make it easier for all users to get around.

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply and suggestion - we're reviewing the site at the moment and although we're limited with the changes we can make I'll certainly put your suggestion forward.

Thanks again - your comments are really appreciated

    Cheers!

Some vouchers or special offers accompanied by landing pages exclusive to affiliates would help.

    Welcome to the forum Ruth.
I'm one of those that joined, downloaded links and hasn't yet implemented anything.
Partly because I've been busy concentrating on Valentines day stuff and partly because I took a look at your prices and compared them with Amazon. Frankly people would be mad to buy from your site! For example Battlestar Gallactica £49.99 on your site, £36.99 on Amazon, both with free delivery.
Then there's the site, what are those empty cubes across the top of the site there for? They're just confusing the issue.
Also by having the affiliate signup large and loud it's telling everyone that visits the site you're giving away 10% to affiliates so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they're paying at least 10% over the odds.
It's great that you're offering 20% discount off drama and action DVDs but it's not often obvious what is drama and what is action and is sci-fi drama or action or neither or both - far better to offer a blanket discount or discount on selected products.
Sorry to be so scathing, but if I wouldn't buy from it that makes it hard for me to recommend it to my visitors. An affiliate "exclusive" discount voucher scheme would help those of us running freebie, voucher sites though...

Have a look at your Google PR - it's 6 on the home page and 0 everywhere else - something is stopping it being inherited throughout your site. If I was thinking of joining your prog and just saw the 0 I'd wonder if there was much brand awareness or if people thought it was worth linking to you. It wouldn't put me off on its own but with the prices and fairly limited product range I think I'd stick to Amazon.

I think he's either been banned or got fed up with us all and left - if you look in the member list he's not there anymore.

    Hey, the truth hurts sometimes.

True. I thought this was the Mark Norville Channel - all Mark Norville, all of the time.

NMM, you didn't say how long your program has been running.

If you started at the beginning of Feb you really haven't had time to see conversions start coming through. I'm sure you'll know that it is a rare surfer who buys on their first visit to a site. There is a lag time between appearing on the net and people actually doing anything with what you've done.

I am a merchant myself and I know that when we put up a new product it can sometimes be a couple of weeks before one sells and then the flood gates open and sales continue.

(Incidentally our fastest ever time from uploading a new product to selling one was 20 mins - and that was a 118 moustache!)
