Best use for a banner space

Hi
I have a banner at the top of all my pages on scifind.co.uk.
I have tried various merchants but cannot seem to get any conversion.
I have tried zencudo and made about £5 in 3 months which is seriously less than what I thought i should get for the impressions as they mix in their own banners and exchange banner.

I have conntacted a few companies about placing a banner for a fixed monthly rental - one might be interested - but how much do I charge a month? (per 1000 views)

Is this the best option?

My personal opinion is that you should not really worry too much about what the banner is making you (it will make some money) but think of it as more of a brand association with your web site. Make sure the banner is relative to the content on your web site and you should see a few more sales come through from it. And as the guys say..... get a cpc deal in there.

As for setting a base payment/ fixed cost tenancy... I wouldn't have a recommendation as I see pay4performace as the way forward.

As i said I am hopefully getting a Sponsor for this but we will wait and see.

I'd say it's key that you at the very least offer something closely linked to Sci-Fi.
