an interesting article about 180 Solutions.

    http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/busine...180folo02.html

As an aside. Whilst looking for some dvd playback software for my usb dvd player (don't get one) I downloaded some stuff Aquanuke said to have a look at. When I went to do some surfing the next day I visited my homepage and this popup for TISCALI appeared. Thinking that something dodgy was up I had a look at the "remove programmes section of the pc" and there it was - n-Case and new.net. I purposely looked to see if anything else was being downloaded and couldn't see any explicit note that I was installing n-Case. So either Winamp or the other one (forgot) bundled it. If it was winamp - this is "Big mamma" scary as millions download and use it.

So as everyday I sweat blood over my pc to build a better life for me and my future family I am contributing to MR 180 Solutions retirement and holiday fund - doesn't that make you feel great?

Oh - when you try and use windows to uninstall the begger it says you have to go to their website and DOWNLOAD another programme to do it - LIKE YEH!!

And then when you do do some research on the net and work out how to remove it using regedit, and you restart the next time you get a nice box popping up saying that "Some other programme had removed n-Case" and that the system may not work now and that you should reinstall.

    They're

    A) playing on peoples apathy and dislike for downloading stuff they don't know (they trusted winamp et al) and

    B) Scaring people by saying their pc may be unstable if they don't reinstall it if the did remove it.

to me this is disgusting and will spend a week before my hols seeing what I can do so they don't effect my and my associate's earnings - any advice?

So where have we got to in this fight against spyware?

If 180 solutions is an ethical company why should its "users" feel like this:
Nik Taranik, a 53-year-old Auburn resident, doesn't see it that way. Taranik's home computer was disabled for nearly three weeks last month as he attempted to remove n-Case. Bombarded by pop-up advertisements, Taranik said the software slowed the machine to a crawl. He recalls one travel-related advertisement that covered the Web site of Expedia when he was attempting to purchase airline tickets to Minnesota.
And if you're still not convinced - 180 Solutions have released another bit of "software" called "Zango Product" see http://www.mediapost.com/dtls_dsp_ne...?newsID=244697

I wonder if the networks that niavely "support" these companies realise the long term effect they are having on the perception ordinary users have with using the internet to make purchases? I truely doubt they give a ****!

So do they wish to work this such "unethical" companies that make statements such as:
Todd Sawicki, director of marketing at 180solutions, said consumers must download a free application for n-Case to be activated. But he said n-Case could get bundled with other free software programs without the company's knowledge. And that could lead to the n-Case software fastening to individual's computers without their knowledge, he said.
Which, I'm affraid is utter bollocks! We've seen an email from 180 Solutions seeking to bundle n-case with other's software and offering renumeration. If it isn't true they can sue me!

But this new Zango is intrusive as it
serves ads over search engines' results pages.
    and
As consumers shop or search for content online, Zango automatically brings them to Web pages it has matched a search query to. The program uses the same search term and the same search engine in generating the result, but immediately brings the user to the most targeted content page, rather than a list of search results. Often, the application will bring users to Web sites that either do not appear in traditional listings, or appear but do not deliver users to the most targeted page on an advertiser's site.
so we're all concerned to a degree about Google including Froogle results - well its Zango which is designed to pi$$ on your chips!

But don't forget according to Todd Sawicki, director of marketing at 180solutions "hijacking the revenue [of affiliates] is "a technically impossible thing."" I think his wife calls him Pinochio in bed! Perhaps his wife enjoys the effect his "lieing" has - but I certainly don't.

LOL - still rolling on the floor ( at your style - not the issue )

    Mths ago I ordered a custom built " dog's boll**ks" PC - I feel the need for speed !!!

Very soon after the speed became a snail. Thinking it was a hardware confict I ordered another PC by different engineer ( anyone want a PowerDVD CD? ) - Got delivery of Dogs Boll**ks No.2 on Thur but not had time to play yet.

Meanwhile read your post - dont get 3 guess why D/B no 1 is so slow - just did a "search".

Now I openly admit I am not a techie - but I know a bit & read this forum regularly - but I have n-case installed - how many "joe public" have it?

    If it helps anyone -

Am I right in remembering someone posting a web-based applet or something that shows when a surfer has skankware installed? And does anyone know where it is?

http://www.lighthousefinance.co.uk immediately informs you if you have spyware installed - it doesn't report if it doesnt find anything though.

that's good, but when i say "yes, tell me how to remove it" it takes me to PCFiesta, for 99$ pcs
i'll have a hunt myself.. was just thinking if there's a decent tool and we all installed it on our websites we have a fair few websites between us, should get quite a few people worried about 'what hackers might be doing to my system' and uninstalling these programs

Sorry guys, Lighthouse finance is one of our beta test sites and the software and script is due for delivery this month, subject to one or two loose ends being tied up. PC Fiesta is one of my brother's online businesses and we just linked to it as a test.

Feel free to PM me for full details and an update of where we're at with our spyware elimination project and how you will be able to implement the detection scripts on your own sites.

Getvis - I can't believe that after months of lecturing on the evils of spyware you've only just realised that it gets bundled with winamp, kazaa, etc. No offence though, I'm glad that you're still as agitated about it as it means that you may well sign up for my new project once it's launched

lol - I knew it was bundled with software. But still when you download stuff and because you know about scumware - you purposley look for notification of it when installing and you don't see any and then you get hit by it then its still annoying.

I think if you go back and look at my posts from early November when I had discussions with Pete and Clarke you would know that I'm one of the most vocal people hear against it. In fact I've done a lot of research about it and have posted my findings here - so go back and take a look at some of the posts:
