Exclamation Duplicate website content!

ello, been reading on forums of late that big G is clamping down real hard on duplicate site content.

In some cases zeroing PR and dumping sites out the index. Apparently it is keeping the "source" ie where it found the content first in the index.

People are also reporting sites with merchant descritions being bumped out too!.

has anyone here seen pages dissapear that contain what could be seen as duplicate content...like product feeds etc etc??

Tom.

I think so
I have a lot of pages in google that show up only on a very specific URL search which have no description or title listed in google.
This could be bue to content duplication or it could be due to the fact that these dynamic pages arn't llinked to anything any more.

Google won't penalise you with a PR0 for having duplicated content, but it will drop you out of the SERPs in favour of the "strongest" page. Sometimes that means that merchants will get knocked out by affiliates, of course.

This has been the case for a while. There are a few ways to mitigate this problem...

Write your own content, or manually rephrase the content from the merchant. This can be a pain if you have lots of pages.
List multiple themed products on one page using the merchant's descriptions, in a fairly random order. This will (should/might) look like unique content to Google so that you should appear in the SERPs.
Anything you can do to customise a datafeed site will increase it's odds of being listed
This move by Google is a pretty obvious one - I guess as affiliates we just need to continue to adapt.
