I live a very sheltered life, focusing on the whole year period for my sites and not getting too involved with Christmas (it gets a look-in and it gets promoted, but self-catering isn't as frenzies as consumer products). I also don't deal with voucher codes, as merchants are loathe to offer them.

I now have a small site that promotes low-value consumer electronics, which I use for experiments and various ideas that I don't necessarily want to expose my other sites to.

I'm not so interested in experimenting with the period leading up to Christmas (I do have some pages optimised for Christmas), but the period from the 25th onwards. So I took a look at my merchants' pages on the network sites for details of promotions, voucher codes and various incentives for that sales period, but... not a thing to help me put stuff in place for it!

Am I not looking in the right place, or am I missing a major point here?

I see how affiliates prepare for the period leading up to Christmas, but how do affiliates prepare for the Christmas and New Year sales period?

You could try e-mailing the affiliate managers for the merchants you promote, and ask them what they will be doing.

That did occur to me, but my experience of managers on even the quiet/ small programmes is that they're tied up with higher priorities at this time of year.

Nobody else finds it odd that programmes don't promote their activities in advance of the sales period?

There's no harm in asking though.

Also, have you looked on the various blogs that aff networks run?

Nothing useful in them, either (although I tend to skim them, as there's a lot of stuff that just isn't relevant to me).

Guess I'll just bite the bullet and drop a few emails!

Try email marketing with a christmas theme. It works like magic!
