Hi Green2K

Hope you will have more success too.

There are a few networks and a lot of big indy's that offer decent 2nd tier commission structures. I have a few projects lined up that I'm about to tackle that could be quite interesting, but I wondered if anyone else has had success...

I am confused about the purpose of 2nd tier commissions...
Why would an affiliate agree to just a 2nd tier commission when they could go direct to the network and get the full whack?
Presumably most 2nd tier affiliates are just spin off sites from the affiliates main site? (i.e. they have the same owner). A means of earning a bit extra % on top of the standard commission.
Have I missed something?

Hi D-Mac
You may have missed the point. Many have relationships with many others including suppliers and customers etc. even others that frequent the same forums as they do, or move in the same circles etc. even down the same golf club for example.
These relationships can be built on trust and often a certain amount of influence exists through this. Mostly, the way it works is one good turn deserves another, givers gain so to speak and often it's not about the rewards, more just about helping each other in any way each can without even asking what's in it for me.
Therefore when another refers you to good affiliate programme that can earn you and them a bit more on top, most will be happy to get involved through the person making the referral rather than trying to cut them out and going direct to a stranger. By doing this you won't be seen as not willing to help them and by helping you put yourself in a better position to also be considered in future and to continue getting the existing business or whatever.
It's networking, hope this helps.

Ah yes, I had missed one point: that the referrer gets the bonus % with the new affiliate getting the standard terms. For some reason I was thinking it was the other way around. Thanks.
Are there super-affiliates out there with networks of sub-affiliates? If so, would the sub-affiliates be content/hobby site owners, or pro-affiliates doing a bit of mutual back scratching? Or a bit of both?

..or to rephrase...
X refers Y to a prog. that pays 10% commission and 5% 2nd tier...
Y makes a sale of £100, and receives £10
X receives £0.50 as a 2nd tier commission
I personally earn more through US 2nd tier referral fees in the average month than through some UK networks (although this is hardly surprising, given that I concentrate more on foreign sites) - and through one UK network I earn more in 2nd tier than 1st tier (again, probably more through my lack of pushing the sites than anything else)...
The thing to remember is that this is just a "referral fee", if you like as opposed to a "7-tier rhumoboid-matrix-salsa-pyramiduscrappus" MLM scheme, for example, and payments are made when an action (Click/Lead/Sale) occurs, with a real product or service.
Cheers
Duncan
Hi all
Another thing to remember is that not all programmes regardless of the amout of tiers and some's opinions of them, is that they are obviously not all the same. Some good, some better and some getting better, often depending to whoever is telling you.
Usually when others are positive I take a look, when they are negative I question their motivations and take a look anyway, it's best to find out the facts for yourself.
