There's probably a million of these threads on A4U but a cursory search and scan through the forums didn't bring up anything recent... let's do a 2012 edition :)

    I'd like to know:
    - who do you use to register new domains?
    - who do you host your sites with?
    - how many domains do you own?
(feel free to answer any or all)

I notice A4U these days has a bit of a spam problem, so I'm interested to hear mainly from folk who've been registered on here for a few years - rather than people with 1 post that recommend their own company :)

As a New Year's resolution I'm looking to trim down my domain portfolio & move to one registrar.

I currently have 1&1, 123-Reg & UKreg as registrars, but what do people make of the alernatives? Following GoDaddy and SOPAgate, many people on Reddit etc recommended Namecheap. Any experience with them as a UK-based affiliate?

Does anyone have a list of UK domain registrars?

I host with Clook and I'm happy with them.

I've only ever used 123 Reg and never had any issues so happy to keep using them.

I have bought around 8 domains but they've not been developed yet, I've just not had the time.

I have a friend who provides hosting (Knowles Hosting) so I use his service and again, it rarely lets me down. I probably have more trust in his service than a multinational with millions of users because issues if they do arise are fixed quickly.

    Registrar: Namecheap
Have previously used 1&1 (avoid!), 123-reg, UKreg, fasthosts and easyspace but can absolutely recommend namecheap.

    Hosting: Eukhost & Hostingzoom
Eukhost aren't perfect, but still better than any other host I've come across. Manageable and good value for money. Hostingzoom/Resellerzoom make a good US based alternative (UK servers also coming online now)

    Domains: 100+

Domains - about 150. All except one are .uk
Registrars - 1&1, heart internet, plus a few randoms.

    I dont reccomend 1&1 , I do recommend heart.

Hosting - krystal, evo, ezpz, native space , eukhost

They are all fine. If I was to recommend one to a friend it would probably be ezpz or evo.
I will probably close the eukhost this year just on cost grounds (for the product I have).

Domain Register - UKreg (Fasthosts) - been with them for about 8 years and not had any major issues. Prices seem reasonable. Support a bit difficult to navigate.

Web Hosts - Clook (dedicated server and also reseller account) . Gave up on eukhost 6 months through a years hosting prepaid hosting as they were so poor.

    Domains - About 90 live, 10 parked

I register .co.uk with Heart Internet, .com with GoDaddy. Heart have had a few minor niggles but they are fine for .co.uk and quite cheap.

I host with Clook (been good) and Catalyst2 (for .aspx, have been fine).

I own approx 350 domains, see domains for sale. Does anyone want to buy one LOL.

For me has to be Domain Monster!

They are cheap and offer quick UK support and full control of domain.

I have hundreds of domains with them, they also do some useful things like sending this type of email.... you own Cheese.com did you know Cheese.co.uk expires tommorow shall we catch it - Brilliant, got some great domains via this!

Agree Clook is best for hosting

Any sites that i've got I register the domains with fasthosts and then host with Just Host - I know Just Host can be a pain but i've always manage to wangle them down to cheaper hosting every year which has been fun. Not sure Just Host would be my preferred choice of hosting, but fasthosts for registering domains has been easy for me.

Namecheap wins hands down. As for hosting, I prefer to have my eggs in different baskets. This way at least if one hosting provider has server issues the rest of the sites are still up and working.

Chris.. I'm surprised you recommend JustHost. I've personally seen how spammers use Justhost servers to send their fraudulent paypal/ebay mails. Perhaps what ticks me off the most was them shrugging it off stating that they can't do much about it.

Didn't say I recommend them, but I've not had any trouble knocking them down in price which suffices the small range of sites i've got

1&1 have served us well for a few years and no real problems. Had downtime once or twice for a day but that was at least 1 year ago and been fine since. support is ok when used.

    Domains

I use namecheap for my domains. We have over 100+. Never had a problem.

    Hosting

For hosting we use hostgator. They have a brilliant live support team, Unlimited hosting for about £6 per month. Can't really go wrong.

Thanks for all the great responses so far guys

One thing I like about 123-Reg is you can go via Quidco and get a small discount

Are Namecheap a good company to use for UK based affiliates? Not sure of everyone's location. Are they recommended for .co.uk / .org.uk as well as .com ?

I'm considering trying out Namecheap and Heart for my next domain purchases -- going to take a look at their pricing.

Does anyone have their own Nominet tag? I've read it might be worth buying one and registering your domains that way if you have a large amount?

I prefer domain registration with ENOM , they are fast and control panel to change settings is very simple.

For Hosting I am very happy with Webhost.Uk.Net great service provider in UK.

What is "domain registration with ENOM" ?

After reading around on Acorn Domains and Clook's support forums I am reconsidering using Heart. It seems like they offer a great service at the moment, but people are worried what the future will bring with their new owners (Host Europe)
