Along with affiliate marketing, domaining is a subject dear to my heart. However, domaining is not something to be jumped into without doing your homework. For those interested in improving their domaining skills, here's a list of domain name trading resources which should help.

Here are a few little tips from me:
    - Do not buy anything until you have done a lot of homework.
    - Remember that buying domains is easy, selling them is hard.
    - Don't buy too many domains before attempting to sell some of them. Attempting to sell them will show you the real quality of your names.

Let me know if there are any more resources worth adding to the list.

Hope that helps ... and good luck for your domaining in 2012!

Dude, need your advice on a domain.

This domain I want is taken but has been suspended since 29th Nov.

Its a .co.uk and takes 200,000 exact searches a month, I checked way back machine and it was an active site in the time the owner has had it but now no site attached so im thinking fingers crossed it will go all the way to being re-released.

What's the best way of grabbing it when it comes active?

Sorry but domainers are the scum of the earth just preventing affiliates from building websites on better domains. Now be gone before I call the internet police !

You'd be best drop catching it.

You need to book with at least one UK public dropcatcher. If you are really serious about the name, book it with a few.

Have only done this once myself but it worked a treat; managed to grab just the domain I was after as soon as it expired. I used Domains - .SO Domain Registration - .XXX Domains - Domainmonster.com and it all went very smoothly.

    Best of luck

    Cheers everyone for the advice,

How much does it cost for one of these services to 'catch' the domain for me?

Lets say I get lucky and one of these services does indeed grab it, I take it, its then mine 100%? I have read somewhere, sometimes if the drop service has more then one user after the domain it goes into an auction?

For the UK dropcatchers, if they catch it, it's yours. E.g. dropcatcher caught.co.uk costs £30 to book a slot. If it's a highly sought after name, unlikely that a single dropcatcher will get it, so more than one dropcatcher booking advisable.

All the dropcatchers hang out at AcornDomains.co.uk if you have the time to get to know them.
