Which is better co.uk or .com for a UK internet business? If you own both which one would you use and why?

    Thanks in advance ;-)

That's a really wide question to ask. Like asking if I go to work should I wear casual or formal

For example I have used a .com address on my UK site. Reason being that if we went international it would be more likely a .com address appear in other SERPs than .co.uk - is it a business that could go international one day?

That said, .co.uk looks better for a UK business on business cards etc -it immediately informs your users that you're a UK based company (more than likely)

There are a few other things to think about but to be honest nowdays the TLD doesn't really count for as much as which search engines you submit to, where your hosting is located etc

So it could just come down to, which do you prefer?

    Both can work...

I would say it depends on the type of business it is. For some .co.uk is very important to identify that it is a UK based business, for others .com and creating a brand around the works very well.

Can you share what your business will be about? I'm sure you'll get more decisive recommendations that way.

If the .com is available, buy it now while you have the choice, then decide!

Personally if a .com is available I'd use that even for a UK site and then just set up subdomains for different countries etc if needed.
