No, Im not talking about the army, I'm referring to creating a super affiliate (certainly in terms of resource and expertise).

I read so many threads on here where affiliates struggle because they have some, but not all the resource/skills they need. Whether it be marketing knowledge, technical knowldege or cold hard cash.

Imagine, if all those resources came togther to form an organisation, funded and run collectively.

Could we create the next MyVoucherCodes, or Quidco? Who knows?

I think joint ventures are generally quite difficult to do. Reason being is that it can be quite hard to match up skillsets, experience, motivation & other resources.

If people with strong complimentary skillsets come together on the right project though it can work. There needs to be a lot of trust though.

Most people with the necessary resources and skills don't need any help, and usually aren't too keen on sharing the spoils of their efforts with others.

My own approach is different, as I believe that there's plenty to go around and helping others is a better way to live than hoping that nobody else finds out all your "secrets" before you make your millions.

This said, if somebody genuinely has zero resources then the chances are that they are going to struggle anyway - the days of making decent money from SEO in a niche are long gone. Sure, you can still pick up bits and bobs here and there, but as referenced many times elsewhere on here, to make a genuine impact these days needs some decent backing together with the skills to create it.

Very true. Finance is always required for a project and if you have that in a lot of cases you can outsource anyway, especially with digital skills, keeping the whole business for yourself.

That said, if someone has experience outside the typical sphere of digital marketing, or is a specialist in a given area it could work.

For example if I had a genuinely innovative idea for a given sector that no-one had thought of, but needed to team up with someone who had sector expertise.

I did a few joint ventures with people off here when I was a whippersnapper (on the old a4u, so before 2003). A couple earned decent money (tens of thousands quite quickly), but in both cases my "partner" changed the network logins, took control of the account and absconded with the money. Never again.

There have a few joint ventures among super affiliates in the UK over the years, but, as far as I am aware, almost all of them have fallen flat. As people have commented above, it's not easy to make them work over the long term.

I have never tried a joint venture, and would imagine any attempt at this would be quite difficult to get right, and would need a very good legal contract that covers every aspect of the joint venture before going ahead. I don't have huge legal knowledge, but I would not imagine it's that difficult to write a good contract, and then everyone will know where they stand. I would imagine not doing this could open you to a world of pain.
