Personally I'm a fan of the studiopress.com/themes ... most of their themes allow you to have a 3 column layout and there are plenty of widgets... they are not free unfortunately, but the quality and support is 1st class.
Hiya everyone,

besides studiopress you also have themeforest.net to check out the themes based on your criteria. And yeah, they aren't too pricey.. max will cost you around $40, but most are priced at $35

I second Studio Press and Genesis themes. Wonderful!
Go on then...I'll third it
I would say though that if you fixate on a theme you usually end up regretting it and your site should hold its own regardless of the theme it uses because your visitors don't give a t*ss. Plain and simple always seems to out perform anything fancy?
Hey everyone,
thanks for getting back really appreciate it! Will give those a look at, not going for anything too fancy but wanted to try something differentthanks again!

StudioPress are not bad, but overrated (I've purchased the full package)
WooThemes are good, and as someone mentioned you should also look at ThemeForest
I stumped up for StudioPress and Thesis and both have their pros and cons. There are a load of free ones out there but I just didn't have the time to search through them all.
These "frameworks" aren't necessarily fancy in appearance, the real win is the flexibility and instant code free customisation. Want to switch from three columns to two? Just press a button, no need to go hunting around for a new theme or try and code it in yourself.
I resisted buying paid for themes for a long time as it seems to go against the spirit of a platform that is distributed for free. I've always given my plugins away for free despite putting many hours of work in.
But I caved in as they did what I want and allowed me to get on with earning that money back!
For a free theme that lets you build what you want, I love Constructor. I've read good things about Atahualpa and Thematic too but not used them yet.
Worth using child themes too so updates don't break anything!
