Has anyone got any experience of getting into content writing?

I have a few spare hours a week and could do with a few extra £ coming in at the moment.

I'm going to post an ad on Odesk but not really sure how much to charge.

I currently pay a non-native English speaker $1 for 100 words but would like to earn a bit more than that. Is there a market for native English speaker to write articles charging about £2 for 100 words? Ideally I want to write for about 5-10 hours a week.

If anyone has any tips of getting into this market please let me know.

    Thanks.

Try People Per Hour - haven't used them myself, but they have been recommended.

No experience but I would assume its quite a tough market to get into especially competing against the Indian market where (I am finding) their prices are low and their English is very good (getting better). Good luck with it!

As stated by others, its a competitive niche. Unless you innovate I don't see huge potential in this niche. You might want to consider looking at article re-writing service (offer it at the same price as $1/100 but at-least you won't have to spend much time researching into the subject). There's a thread here and in many other forums as well about people looking for re-writing services (human readable). In today's Panda age.. it can just work for you.

People will pay if you can provide a quality product, but that's the hard bit. Here are some content writing links for you.

Try textbroker.co.uk - I've been on both sides of the fence there (customer and author), and had some good results.

    Cheers.

Thanks people. Will check out the links. Already had a few bites of the line. I'm only looking for about 5-10 hours a week so fairly optimistic I can find something.

Personally, I think there's a place for content that costs £1 for 100 words and there's a place for content that costs £10 for 100 words. So I would have thought you could find customers at the price you're looking to charge.

I've been looking into this myself a bit and found the site Copify - who pay their writers £2 for 100 words - may be worth you looking into..

Note: - I've done a bit more research on the company above, seems there's quit a debate on them (especially on here) - I'm not commenting either way, just thought I'd let you know...

I think you really want to aim to produce content that is actually aiming to be read/ shared within a decent audience size, so more like a post on a tech blog with a big following online. Not much money to be made with lower quality content being written primarily for its SEO value.
