That's a fairly offensive colour scheme, and, the layout doesn't have any coherent structure, too many items vying for attention and nowhere for the eyes to naturally rest, but, as I never use it, then it's just fine![]()
You've probably noticed the BBC Sport site has had a redesign ready for their media-rich coverage of the Olympics.
It's been universally slated in the comments section (altho feedback comments sections usually see more negative views than positive) for a combination of being too yellow and too cluttered with photos and videos.

I tend to agree with this. The yellow reminds me of Setanta and I think you either love or hate it (a dangerous tactic with a mass audience website). It looks like they are trying to cram too much rich media (think features not news) over the traditional information. It's harder to find lots of the info that used to be available.
I'm sure people will get used to it but I don't really know what to make of it at the moment. I tend to keep an eye on sites like this to pick up tips etc...
Anyone got any opinions from a design and UX point of view?

As soon as I saw it I thought this is absolutely terrible, was too busy and the yellow is an eyesore. Wonder what drugs the designer was on when he came up with it. Firm believer in simple, clean websites in this day and age.

Not Good.
A mix between sky news and setanta, with a hint of teletext!
Teletext, that's exactly it, blocky and unfriendly
BBC - BBC Internet Blog: Launching the new BBC Sport website
"I've been to lots of useability tests"
My assumption based on this is they found people found it difficult to find what they wanted (I personally found it dead easy on the old site) so they've decided to throw everything on the landing page which ironically now makes it more difficult to find what you're looking for!

First time I looked at it, almost blinded me. Its such a mainstream website, they needed a more neutral colour scheme.
I think that's what they have forgotten, or a fact they have decided to ignore. It's almost as if they have brainstormed how to be quirky and cutting edge and simply come up with using bright yellow, whacking loads of videos everywhere and turning every section into a feature.
They've also forgotten that most people probably read it at work and you're not going to be able to hide the fact you've got it open.....
Wow, that yellow is not pretty......! Feels like they are cramming a lot in and the layout makes it look really narrow
