"Salary according to age and experience."
I'm not being helpful, but is a company allowed to be ageist anymore? I had that when I went for a job when I was 16/17, I ensured I got the same wage as those who did the same job as me.

we don't have anyone doing anything like this job at the moment...so there's no one to compare the role with...so, we thought the fairest thing was to say salary based on A&E...
Companies can be "ageist", though they should base it on ability rather than age; minimum wage is different for different age groups.
Even Jobseekers Allowance is lower for under 25s than it is for over 25s.
see...I 'm not the only person who see's your post as ageist.
I'm 23 and have had to put up with that upon age and experience crap for years as an excuse to pay me less than my co-workers who were doing the same job.
now however, I command a salary based on my experience and worth..not my age.![]()

we pay according to age and experience - at least as a starting point.
Since there is no one else doing the same role, there is nothing to compare with...it isn't working at McDonalds.
Or perhaps in your opionion we should offer the same terms that we both started on? we worked for over a year without taking any money out of the business at all.
Sorry I didn't mean to cause any offence, it's probably just my background that makes me question things - I did say I wasn't being any helpIt's probably just my background. Having seen ageism at first hand, as most 16/17 year olds have who go out to work, I think it makes us more aware of the problem.
Hopefully (I thought it already had) it will become law soon for both ends of the work force, whether over 50 or under 21. And let's face it, the sectors I used to work in, retail and logistics, the wages haven't moved for a decade so they're getting away with murder anyway.
And the thing with web publishing is most start learning the ropes as a young teen so by 16 they're pretty knowledgable, but then that's up to that individual to speak their mind as I did, and get what they deserve, employers want you, you don't need them so negotiate.
We're not queuing up at the docks at 4am for jobs anymore. Thankfully. Once again, I didn't mean any offence, I just saw the age bit and thought I'd bring it up.But then again I'm of the view that young adults at aged 15 should be allowed to work if they wish - and I believe they can, I certainly would have done given the option.
However apprenticeships are the exception and worthy of a pay scale at aged 15, it's certainly more valuable to a person at 15 to get experience and a job for life than another year in school. I can see why my mother said I should have been a union leader, when I get into conversations like this, too much opinion me![]()

that this job ad was meant to be open to anyone to apply for.
Where we have used freelance support staff in the past everyone has been paid the same rate...an 18 yr old school leaver through to a mid 30s professionally qualified administrator
We don't want to set a salary because we think we do need to be flexible according to age and experience...to give you an example, one applicant is 30 something with kids. He has very little experience in the role we are advertising - not enough to really justify the salary he would need to move. However, if he turns out to be the best candidate and we have to pay him more than we want to in order to hire him, we will do so. I wouldn't have wanted to discourage him from applying.
Commercially, we need a good person on board and as you say Lee, it is up to candidates to convince us of their value!
