    Has anyone ever paid for traffic to be sent to their site using companies like those advertised at the bottom of this forum. If so did the traffic materialise and was it of decent quality (i.e. did it convert to sales?).

    Never have done, and never will do either. Just dont trust them at all.

    As a side point, the ones you see at the bottom of this page, I suspect are not comming recommended - it is an eSpotting feed that I guess is picking up from site content. Not sure, just me presuming.....

    It arrives but there's no money made out of it whatsoever.

    Just wondered what exactly you tried 3 times?

    We're tempted by a few of these schemes.

    Cheers

    You buy campaigns of say 50,000 visitors. So I presume he's bought 3 lots ie 150,000 off to 3 different urls.

    I was bored one night and did try it when I clicked through one of Matts links at the bottom. I also bought three expired domain campaigns. I sent them to a page with just a handful of tracked links on it. Result was very poor something like 1 click - 10,000 visitors. So my guess is most the visitors never even saw my page no doubt opened in some tiny window or hidden behind a barrage of other websites.

    You do however get a log of all the visitors by IP and if you lookup the IP's they where all UK addresses.

    One way they display your page is in a frame which refreshes every 15 - 20 seconds with a different site in some kind of rotator script.

    something like this:

    PHP Code:
    <script language="JavaScript">
    setTimeout("document.location.reload()",20000);
    </script>
    <FRAMESET rows="0,100%" BORDER=0 FRAMEBORDER=0 FRAMESPACING=0>
          <FRAME NAME="topframe" SRC="template/top.html" NORESIZE>
          <FRAME NAME="siteframe" SRC="http://www.WEBPAGEROTATOR.COM/script.php" NORESIZE target="_blank">
    </frameset>
    <noframes></noframes>

    Yes, I've done this once and it was a waste of (a small amount)
    of money. I guess it's a way of making money (for those
    selling the dubious services) until the word finally gets out:
    don't do it!

    I've found it depends on what you're promoting and how 'targetted' the categories are.

    I've actually got one campaign running at the moment and have generated some profit from it. Admittedly I've trialed it on different areas and some have been useless, for example 'UK Shoppers' which although are targetted, shopping is too general a category to be useful.

    I don't think they use any dodgy framing techniques or popunders as i've seen clickthrough rates of 2%+ on some ads which is in line from adwords traffic. Its just that the traffic doesn't then convert as well.

    I'm not saying it's the most cost effective method of getting traffic but thought I'd share my experience.

    I've also thought it might be useful as a branding exercise - the traffic is very cheap.

    Is it possible to use the likes of FastClick.com to make money from this traffic on a CPM basis? Anyone tried it?
