hi,
we're just building our first merchant site and looking into payment systems. we're leaning towards worldpay.
in the archives, someone says to have a broad description for products so worldpay don't complain if you expand the range later on.
does anyone have any experience or knowledge of using the same worldpay account on multiple sites? is this possible?
we have a couple of things that we currently use paypal for that i'd like to switch over to worldpay if possible. they don't justify their own account but if we get one for our new shop, it'd be great if we could make use of it elsewhere.
thanks
john

If you use callbacks or anything you will need a seperate installation ID. They do not charge for these.
Thanks Mat (did you get my email re t&c's?)
Got it. Just having a look about to see if we have anything.
Cheers Mat
Hi Jon
One problem we experienced with using only one WP account for multiple sites was an increase in chargebacks.
This is because WorldPay only allow you to display one name on the customers credit card statement.
So, for example, if your website was called Risby-Jewellery, you could display WP-Risby-Jewellery on the customers' statements.
If you have another site called Risby-Computers, you would have to display WP-Risby-Jewellery on the customers' statements. When the customer gets their CC statement they then then think, "Hmm I didn't spend £55.20 on Jewellery, someone must have used my credit card fraudulently - I'm going to call my bank and get the charge refunded."
This happened to us quite a bit and was a bit of an expensive nuisance. The answer of course is to explain to the customer (perhaps in an email) that their statement will say WP-Risby-Jewelllery, and not Risby-Computers.
It's not a huge problem, but worth knowing about.

Thanks Dave, yes, that's something I've thought about and I plan to stress to the customer than they will be charged by our limited company name which is more generic so hopefully the problem will occur less (certainly compared with having a name such as "X Jewellery" etc on a non-jewellery site). Of course, I can still see it happening sometimes.
Probably best to suck it and see and get a new account if there are problems.
We occassionally have that problem with chargebacks. No matter what you put on the receipt some people will not read it. Generally a phone call to the customer as soon as the chargeback is raised will solve the problem.
The biggest downside of running 2 accounts is that they will not combine the turnovers on them when negotiating rates.
One problem with having more than one account may be getting WP to combine the turnover of the two together when it comes to negotiating a better commission. I'm only guessing here though.

I would advise checking with Worldpay as to how to handle multiple websites with different products before you apply. Get something in writing so that you can refer to it later.
The answers I got seemed to indicate that similar products on similar websites were OK, but they didn't really answer my questions clearly about very different websites run by one company.
I raised the issue of for instance a conglomerate having all sorts of websites selling different products. The answer I got iniitally was that each site would need a different account. One set up fee but multiple annual charges. However, when pressed, the person I spoke to seemed none too clear about the reasons for this.
